The surrounding Lincolnshire countryside

General

  • Family-friendly site on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Easy access to the Viking Way walking and cycling trail
  • On-site bar; a 10-minute drive from Brigg pubs and farmers' market

Stay on this fab farm site and see the wonders of the Wolds... Setcops Farm is a smallholding on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a 20-minute walk from the village of North Kelsey and a 40-minute drive from Hull city.

The site has a bar and a playground for leisure times, and there's plenty of space for traditional outdoor activities such as French cricket, croquet and kite flying. The country pubs, restaurants, farm shops and farmers' markets in the towns of Brigg, Caistor and Louth are within easy reach: Brigg and Caistor are 10 minutes' drive away and Louth is within 35 minutes.

Along with Brigg, the nearby villages of Bigby and Searby are all under 10 minutes' drive away and all on the route of the Viking Way, a 147 mile-long walking and cycling trail that begins on the banks of the Humber in the north and winds its way through Lincolnshire passing Horncastle, the Lincolnshire Limewoods, Lincoln city, the southern Lincolnshire Edge and the Kesteven Uplands, before finishing up on the shores of Rutland Water.

Clean, level pitches, good cut grass.

Helpful owner - very attentive, on hand to make sure you are settled in, find you a pitch, advise on local attractions etc.

Clean toilets and wash basins, and use of a Fridge (£1 extra charge).

Great 4G mobile signal - ideal for wiling away the hours on your phone after the kids go to sleep (or vice versa!)

Close to Cleethorpes - about 25 mins, but far enough away to seem peaceful and rural.

    Disliked:

The Pitchup listing says that there is parking by the tent - this is not correct, you can park by the tent to unpack or pack up, but the rest of the time you have to leave the car in a car park.

Pitches are quite close to each other, we had barely 2ft between our tent and the next. Fortunately, all the other campers had families and children, and there was no noise after 11pm curfew (apart from the neighbour snoring!!)

Beautiful stunning location on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds10/05/2018

It was an absolutely gorgeous bank holiday weekend in a beautiful location. To watch the sun come up over the dewy countryside was just stunning. Campsite has a toilet which is handy but could do with an outside tap. Thanks to a previous review we filled our water barrel to take with us. We went on a great bike ride along the Viking Way which is about 3 miles away in Grasby. I don't recommend that stretch of the Viking Way into Caistor with bikes though. We had to lift them over quite a lot of styles and gates. Loved Caistor though we found a spring with natural water flowing out, so we filled our water bottles and cycled back to the campsite via the road which is about 4 miles. The sun going down on the other side of the campsite was just as epic while we played our game of Payday till we couldn't see the board no more.

    Disliked:

Not really dislikes, just advice for improvements:
    Fit outside tap.
Cut grass lower, was very wet in morning at that length.
    Provide a recycling area.
    We took our rubbish home.

Local attractions

If the thunder of hooves appeals, it's a 20-minute trip by car to Market Rasen racecourse, where alongside the racing of steeds there are regular family entertainments, beer festivals and live music. For noisier racing, head 40 minutes to Caldwell Park's motor circuit for regular car and bike meets, vintage rallies and the chance to floor it on the bends yourself.

The assorted cows, goats, pigs, lambs and young visitors to Hall Farm Park (10 minutes) make a racket of their own and clearly have a great time doing it: alongside beasts you can meet, pet and feed, there are pedal karts and play barns. If you've caught the farming bug, have a go at milking the cows at Rand Farm Park (30 minutes) and take a tractor ride too.

For nature in the wild, head to the Waters Edge Visitor Centre and surrounding park, also half an hour away: on trails through the 100 acres of woods, wetlands and wildflower meadows you'll get cracking views of the Humber Bridge and see a variety of wading birds. A similar distance away, spot inland wildlife in the extensive grounds of 19th-century Normanby Hall and its country park .

For traditional seaside stuff, it's a half-hour drive to Cleethorpes: along with piers and sandcastles, there's 10-pin bowling, coast rides on the light railway and a zoo to nose around.

It's a 40-minute drive to Hull and Lincoln and an hour and 20 minutes to York, making day trips to the historic centres, museums and shops supremely doable from the site.
