Snake lake

General

  • Angling site in a peaceful rural setting in the Isle of Axhome
  • A 15-minute drive from Gainsborough and 35 from Doncaster
  • Two coarse fishing lakes: land carp, roach and tench

As its name so handily suggests, Oaktree Fishery is a site with provisions for people who like to spend their time angling. Set in rural north Lincolnshire and surrounded by open countryside, this park has two coarse fishing lakes where guests can get in trawling time.

The fishery has a snake lake in a canal style suitable for pole fishing, and a main lake in a circular design with a central island and 26 pegs. Species to land include carp and F1 carp, with a smaller smattering of roach, tench and crucian carp as well (please note that night fishing is not allowed, and all anglers will be asked to show a valid licence before they're allowed to fish; no licence, no fishing…)

If you’re not just heading here to reel in some underwater critters, the Isle of Axhome location is well placed for explores. Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve is 20 minutes’ drive away for moorland walks with the chance of spotting birds of prey, and you can see more exotic beasts at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 25 minutes away. The minster and Roman walls of Doncaster are 35 minutes' drive away.

Sights ticked off, return home to settle on a pitch adjacent to both lakes, on flat and well-drained land with scenic countryside views. Amenities include a brick toilet block with separate facilities for ladies, gents and disabled guests (refurbed with new showers for the 2020 season) and the site also has chemical disposal.

And for your eats? Barbecues are allowed – which is indeed useful if you do manage to catch a fish or two. If you've not had such luck, head for the site café instead.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The shower facilities are closed. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

    Beautiful sight seeing area.
    Perfectly positioned and secluded.
    Very quiet and adults only.

The owners are so friendly and helpful with everything you need/ask for.
We didn't go for the fishing but did walk around the lakes a few times. It was so relaxing and peaceful.

    All facilities were spotless.

    Disliked:

There was only one toilet per male and female.
We had a portaloo with us but for wees only.
Standing in a queue then knowing people are waiting was uncomfortable.
(There was also a disabled toilet with a ramp which was a very big positive)
