Oak Tree Holiday Park and Fishery: Main lake

General

  • Angling site in a peaceful rural setting in the Isle of Axhome
  • A 15-minute drive from Gainsborough and 35 from Doncaster
  • Two coarse fishing lakes: land carp, roach and tench

As its name so handily suggests, Oak Tree Holiday Park and Fishery is a site with provisions for people who like to spend their time angling. Set in rural north Lincolnshire and surrounded by open countryside, this park has two coarse fishing lakes where guests can get in trawling time.

The fishery has a snake lake in a canal style suitable for pole fishing, and a main lake in a circular design with a central island and 26 pegs. Species to land include carp and F1 carp, with a smaller smattering of roach, tench and crucian carp as well (please note that night fishing is not allowed, and all anglers will be asked to show a valid licence before they're allowed to fish; no licence, no fishing…)

If you’re not just heading here to reel in some underwater critters, the Isle of Axhome location is well placed for explores (how handy if you're the non-fishing one of a couple…). Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve is 20 minutes’ drive away for moorland walks with the chance of spotting birds of prey, and you can see more exotic beasts at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 25 minutes away. The minster and Roman walls of Doncaster are 35 minutes' drive away.

Sights ticked off, return home to settle on a pitch adjacent to both lakes, on flat and well-drained land with scenic countryside views. Amenities include a brick toilet block with separate facilities for ladies, gents and disabled guests (refurbed with new showers for the 2020 season) and the site also has chemical disposal.

And for your eats? Place an order with reception and someone will bring you a bacon or sausage bap, with a hot or cold drink, at a time of your choosing and right to your peg or pitch.

Life at Oak Tree is all very peaceful so it's best suited to couples'/family retreats and not a spot for the party animals.

Please note

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Please note you must arrive before 2pm if you do want to fish on the day of arrival.

Lots of space for the pitch, plenty of area for walking the dogs and excellent clean facilities. Caretakers we’re very friendly and helpful.
Was interesting to see the anglers on our walks, can see that being a good place to go for fishing weekends.
A good price too, we also had room for a shelter between our tents.

    Disliked:

Only one toilet with shower for men, one for women and one disabled. It’s great to have shower & toilet together but if someone is having a long shower and you need the loo - you have a long wait. Okay for when we stayed but can see it being a problem when the place is full.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely honest review, yes we do understand we have to address the bathroom facilities, which is going to be on our list of most be done jobs soon than later, we do realise this is a problem yes the toilet are lovely, which the previous owners did a wonderful job for the business he wanted to run, but we have expanded the site so much we will be upgrading the toilet block too.
