Oak Tree Holiday Park and Fishery: Snake lake

General

  • Angling site in a peaceful rural setting in the Isle of Axhome
  • A 15-minute drive from Gainsborough and 35 from Doncaster
  • Two coarse fishing lakes: land carp, roach and tench

As its name so handily suggests, Oak Tree Holiday Park and Fishery is a site with provisions for people who like to spend their time angling. Set in rural north Lincolnshire and surrounded by open countryside, this park has two coarse fishing lakes where guests can get in trawling time.

The fishery has a snake lake in a canal style suitable for pole fishing, and a main lake in a circular design with a central island and 26 pegs. Species to land include carp and F1 carp, with a smaller smattering of roach, tench and crucian carp as well (please note that night fishing is not allowed, and all anglers will be asked to show a valid licence before they're allowed to fish; no licence, no fishing…)

If you’re not just heading here to reel in some underwater critters, the Isle of Axhome location is well placed for explores. Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve is 20 minutes’ drive away for moorland walks with the chance of spotting birds of prey, and you can see more exotic beasts at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 25 minutes away. The minster and Roman walls of Doncaster are 35 minutes' drive away.

Sights ticked off, return home to settle on a pitch adjacent to both lakes, on flat and well-drained land with scenic countryside views. Amenities include a brick toilet block with separate facilities for ladies, gents and disabled guests (refurbed with new showers for the 2020 season) and the site also has chemical disposal.

And for your eats? Place an order with reception and someone will bring you a bacon or sausage bap, with a hot or cold drink, at a time of your choosing and right to your peg or pitch.

Please note

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Please note you must arrive before 2pm if you do want to fish on the day of arrival.

Potential to be a nice site, but certainly not peaceful when visited07/06/2021

Cleanliness of facilities and friendliness of warden

    Disliked:

No one told us prior to arrival that work using large heavy plant (excavator!) would be undertaken whilst we were there. I appreciate that the site needs upgrading but it was certainly not the quiet break we anticipated. Work carried on til gone 5pm on Friday and after lunch on Saturday, and then a mini digger came out! Also the no music rules are not monitored, very noisy music coming from a pitch close to us.

From the manager...

We are so sorry Clare you have had such a bad stay with us, for the work taking place all I can do is apologise again for this, The machinery was only available for so many days, I hope our warden did say on your arrival and said sorry about the work.
For the music, this was not brought to our attention or was not heard by our warden, the wardens phone number is around the site for issues like this, (if anyone is reading this) has any issues if they are staying with us, please use the number that is on the toilet block or on the reception outside wall, or go to the wardens caravan and I can assure you our warden is very approachable and would/will sort this in a very friendly manner.
We totally understand we can not please everyone, however we try our best, if only you had came to us & talked to us we would of tried to sort it out for you at the time.

Kind regards
Adele & Bill

A great little find, what a gem of a place.
Owners were fabulous, attentive and friendly from start to finish
The site was so peaceful and so well cared for. Felt like I was using a hotels loo and shower they were that immaculate.
Our pitch was a great size with the sun shining down on it all day.
Was sad to leave. We will definately be back, looking into taking a permanent pitch we loved it that much
