  • Smart modern caravan on a quiet, well-kept park in Burgh le Marsh
  • Five minutes' drive from Skegness and 10 from the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Next to fishing lakes; pubs and shops a 10-minute walk away
Seaside or countryside? Handily, around here it’s not a question of one or the other – bag a stay at Burgh Gardens for a bit of both. For days when you fancy a bit of beach action, it’s an easy five-minute drive (or even easier 15-minute bus ride) to Skegness; if it’s rural rambles that take your fancy, you need only look to the Lincolnshire Wolds, a 10-minute drive in the opposite direction. Even closer than either of these is the local village of Burgh le Marsh, a 10-minute walk away. Petite it may be, but it’s packed with places for eats and drinks, including a most generous five (yes, five) pubs, a popular chippy and other restaurants (dinner in a windmill, anyone...?). There’s also a fine selection of shops for folk who’d rather cook back at base – swing by the supermarkets or source supplies at the baker and butcher. Back at base, it’s highly possible that dinner will have to wait for a little while, as the gorgeous gardens and ornamental lake are the sort that simply demand a bit of a pre-prandial stroll. If you like your lakes instead to come stocked with fish, slip next door to set up your rod at Sycamore Lakes.

Local attractions

So… seaside first? Start with a stroll around Skegness (five minutes’ drive), taking a paddle in the sea and then snaffling fish and chips and ice creams while you wander along the pier. The Natureland Seal Sanctuary and Skegness Aquarium are both popular picks for meeting marine animals, and Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is a 15-minute drive away if you’d rather point your binoculars towards passing birds. Those for whom hols = golf time can flex their putting arm while taking in sea views at one of three golf courses within a 10-minute drive of the site. (Arguably, you should then really prove your skills on the crazy golf course back in Skegness…) After something a bit more pulse-raising? Head out to Fantasy Island theme park (10 minutes) to scream your way along the rollercoasters and rides. Once returned safely to solid ground, turn your attentions inland for rambles and bike rides in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes). The ruins of Bolingbroke Castle (20 minutes) are worth a bimble if you’re into your ancient sites, as is the 18th-century Gunby Hall (10 minutes) if you prefer 18th-century elegance.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We can only apologise that you did not enjoy your stay and we have already discussed your stay over the phone. People choose Burgh Gardens and love it there because of how quiet it is and the dog walks around so we are surprised by your comments.
