General

  • Peaceful rural location on the edge of Medbourne
  • Riverside pub and café nearby serving meals and cream teas
  • Barbecue, garden furniture and outdoor terrace

If you're pitching up here, it's fairly certain you're in the market for some English countryside rest and relaxation? Sorted: Rural Relaxing is in the village of Medbourne in the Welland Valley, a setting that the friendly team reckon is one of Britain's best-kept secret spots. And it has a pub nearby dishing up meals – that's a rural relaxation result.

As its name might hint, this is a firmly rural site: the owners have taken care not to make it look commercialised in any way so that guests can settle down and soak up old-school Leicestershire countryside. And then make themselves at home among the site barbie, garden furniture with comfy cushions and the sunny terrace for alfresco eats…

The owners have also added a welcome cabin with books, outside game kits like bats, balls and rackets, and timetables for local leisure centres and a list of what's on in the local area. It's also the place to source snacks like biscuit bars, ice creams and soft drinks (just pop a few coins in the honesty box to pay for your wares).

Elsewhere on site, a coffee hut serves freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat, Nespresso coffee, tea and hot chocolate (open Saturday and Sunday mornings and during the main season), and there's a covered open-air social area with pallet-style seating and a firepit.

And that pub? It's a stunner for real ales and gourmet food by the riverside, in a setting welcoming both kids and dogs. The Nevill café at the rear of the pub is open daily for breakfast, lunch, coffees and afternoon tea – do try the scones and the terrace, advises the Rural Relaxing team (and don't forget to dollop on the clotted cream).

The village shop and post office at Medbourne can sort supplies such as homemade bread, cakes, biscuits and newspapers; elsewhere, you'll find most of what you need in the nearby towns of Market Harborough, Uppingham, Stamford and Oakham.

Rural Relaxing's amenities include a ladies' toilet and shower, plus a separate one for the gents.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

This site was very well thought out the lady had gone to a lot of time and thought to make your stay enjoyable. there is a coffee shop open at weekends in the mornings.
there is a well stocked honesty shop and if you've forget something like a pump to blow up your beds don't worry plenty in the shop to borrow, also many other items wellies, coats, fire pits, toys, books even a place to charge your phone with every different type of charger lead you would need. Toilets very clean, we will be going back to this site and will be regulars
The owner was very helpful and friendly a very nice lady who should be proud of the site she has. My boys loved it 12yrs and 6yrs.

Uncomfortable futon! Need an additional toilet and basin in both men/women facilities. Need more than one washing up sink.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review

Sorry to hear you felt the futon was uncomfortable - that's the first negative on that one so I will look into it for sure.

We have plans to extend the loo facilities for 2020 and washing up area is a new facility for 2019 but I will consider your feedback - most guests are happy to wait to use - but we'll see what we can do!

Hope to see you again, thrilled to read you enjoyed the setting and the "thoughtful extras" so thank you for that.

Absolutely amazing little place. We loved everything about it. The communal area is beautiful and so simple. We might even pinch a few ideas for our garden at home. The nice touches like a few essentials for sale with an honesty box for payment and the abundance of fire pits and bbqs to use is great. We will certainly be coming back. Next we will try out the safari tents which look awesome. Well done to the owners

Location very good. Melbourne is a very nice village. The pub and food are excellent

    Disliked:

The only improvement we could suggest is for another male toilet - there was often a queue in the mornings!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review & I am thrilled you enjoyed your stay.

For 2020 we have more plans to extend the facilities and hope very much this will be completed by late spring before the season gets busy again.

For the benefit of those reading this review, these guests stayed during busy August where we there was pressure points on the gents having to wait a few minutes longer, however most guests are happy to wait but we are concious that this needs improving and this is top of the agenda for both ladies & gents facilities. The plan is to include two additional showers for ladies too.

Also 20 minutes away, have a wander around Foxton Locks to see its boats and its museum... or drive further along to go fly fishing in the waters of Lutterworth (40 minutes). If you're on hol with the kids, they'll likely like Market Harborough's Mini Mischief (10 minutes), a huge adventure play centre for all ages including dedicated baby and toddler zones, or Aqua Park Rutland (30 minutes), a wipe-out waterpark on Rutland Water.
