Rural Relaxing

Mi è piaciuto Very quiet location with cows in the field next door for company. The facilities were excellent, the showers and toilets were clean which very important. The site was secured by a padlock which had to be set to the correct number so felt secure. It was quiet when my husband and I stayed i.e. midweek after the kids had returned to school. The site was well resourced I.e. toiletries, washing up factilites, towels, electric hook up any thing you might need but forgot to bring.

Mi è piaciuto Fantastic facilities. Great little cafe. Nicely kept campsite and big numbered pitches and lovely location. Nice pub in walking distance in the village. .

Dal gestore: I am pleased you enjoyed the 'lovely little campsite', however I was disappointed to read the other comments which surprised us.

We pride ourselves on running a campsite with some nice extras and the comment about requiring a good tidy and tlc is unfounded and don't know what this refers to - the flower borders? the wood pile for the fire pits? Our café secures a 5 star food hygiene rating, this wouldn't be offered if our standards were sub standard! We are obliged to complete proper checks which we carry out and keep good records of such.

We pop up to site every day to check everything, we can't be on site all the time as there is no owner property there and we have no control over arrival times or when guests intend to go out thus we regularly miss people because of this (unless it's the weekend when we have a full team working at the café for long periods of time). We are, however, contactable 24 hours a day for any queries, concerns or just a query about the best village walks or village shop opening times, best pubs in the area etc.

For the benefit of readers, see the review below "nicely kept campsite". We have many repeat customers who love the site, it's tiny, it's quaint and we do our very best to make sure everyone is happy with the way the site is presented. The attention to detail is what we do, we want customers to return year after year and it's very disappointing to read when we fall short. We know we can't please everyone, take all comments on board and act where we believe comments are justified.

Non mi è piaciuto Pitches are on a slight slope. Toilet facilities are shared with the public cafe when open. Advice was to bring bottled water rather than drink out the taps.

With any rural field it is advised to bring bottled water however, our taps are on the mains and we do use them, some people prefer to bring bottled water so that's why we put it in the information as a "might like to bring" Our taps are safe to use.

The café is open from 9 until 12.30 Saturday and Sunday mornings & bank holidays and or the benefit of readers, as a tiny rural site we don't have separate loo facilities for café visitors (who, surprisingly, rarely use them in the short time they visit popping in for a coffee or a breakfast roll). What I can say is there are good solid wooden doors on the showers/loos so to ensure complete privacy.

With high repeat of camping visitors who come year after year I don't think this dislike is justified as not to visit again.

Dal gestore: I reviewed your pitch and for the benefit of readers, the "hill" is infact a gentle slope. Our flattest pitches had already been booked beforehand (a busy bank holiday weekend), others are on a slight gradient but I have never received a negative comment about the gradient in the 10 years of operating. I am sorry we fell short on your pitch allocation.

Regards to the electric sockets. There are sockets in the ladies room - two behind the small cupboard aside the long mirror and another one which operates the table lamp.

In the gents there is a socket next to the sink raised on the wall. Acting on your feedback, I will move the cupboard so the sockets are highly visible. I regret you didn't have the opportunity to ask any of my team about this at the time as we would have been very happy to point them out to you.

Mi è piaciuto Stunning place, very welcoming host, great facilities and just a really lovely vibe! We were lucky with the weather which just made it even better. Beautiful local pub, places to walk the dogs. Really highly highly recommend!

Mi è piaciuto I chose one of the worst wet and windy weekends. Caroline had emailed bookings to say the site was to wet for cars to go on. As I was cycling this didn't cause an issue. On arrival it was apparent the warning was well judged. Had a car tried to get on it would've got a foot or two into the field and churned the grass into a bog.
My alloted pitch was quite wet under foot but still useable. It was within 10ft of a water point. I couldn't be happier.
After pitching up I had a walk around the site. No one else was there. Toilets were good and the cafe eating area looked well worth a visit if it opened this weekend with the poor weather.
Later that evening a couple in a small motorhome set up just outside the grassed area. So I had the field to myself.
After a night of frost I saw the cafe was opening.
I had to visit. Inside the cafe was a blazing log burner. Taking the seat nearest this was wonderful after the chilly night. Breakfast ordered.
I had the full fry up. It was bliss.

Non mi è piaciuto With the sloping site friction or the lack of, was my enemy. I kept sliding down my sleeping mat during the night.

Mi è piaciuto Beautiful set up, very homely and comfortable. Can only imagine how lovely it must be on a summers night. Helpful friendly staff & good full English breakfast with all the trimmings, fab sausages, however the bacon had no flavour. The addition of shower gel was nice too.

Non mi è piaciuto Not much to dislike, just unfortunate things for our visit. Field was water logged so we couldn’t go on it, shower didn’t work but was fixed the next day.

As our first guests for 2026 (others were cancelled due to terrible wet weather), I had inspected the showers a week ago however, it became clear that one of them was not reaching temperature and therefore we called out an electrician as soon as we were informed, he arrived on an urgent call on Sunday morning and confirmed a part was required. At the time of the complaint, I stated there were two other showers available but as you were going out for the day you hadn't time to shower and therefore, as a gesture of goodwill I gave a 10% discount voucher for the café.

I am taking up your comment about bacon with our supplier. We have used this butcher for many years and have never before had a complaint about the lack of taste to this bacon, indeed, we have many people who come weekly as regulars to the café so I don't understand why it seemingly was tasteless - I will be sure to check it out.

For the benefit of readers - In view of the water logged field, I offered the customers another date but they stated they still wanted to come, I therefore made sure their vehicle had a gravel hardstanding pitch to ensure their vehicle wouldn't get stuck.

We do go above and beyond to make things right and when I spoke to the customer, they stated they would like to return, I look forward to welcoming them again.
