Liked The showers were amazing. As good as being at home as there are two private bathrooms with shower.

The site itself is pretty and has nice views across farmland.

Liked Located in close proximity to the main towns but in an idyllic location,easy access from both north and southbound motorways,Seems to be under new management and they are doing a look lovely job the site is clean,well maintained,quiet,staff are very very friendly and helpful,would benefit massively from a little onsite shop is my only criticism,2 toilets cleaned daoky and well stocked with loo roll and hand wash,2 clean and roomy shower blocks,lovely pub on site very friendly staff we arrived on Friday and unfortunately they were not serving food however we had KFC delivered to is there with he intentions of eating it at the van but the staff insisted it wasn't a problem for us to eat it there and provided us with condiments ,a thoroughly enjoyable ,quiet,small well managed and well maintained camp site wishing the new management the best of luck in their new venture greatest appreciation Lynne and Tracy the 2 old duffers in the micro van

Disliked -Owner was not present on arrival. A lady who is a frequent visitor showed us to our pitch.
-We had requested to be next to friends. Unfortunately, this had not been accommodated for. We arranged to put both tents in one pitch (reasonable pitch size) and place both cars on the other pitch. In the time it took to set up our tents, other guests arrived and were placed where our cars were going. We therefore had two tents and two cars in one pitch space, however paid for two. Space was available on the pitches opposite, however, we were informed that this space was not to be used. This space remained empty for our whole stay.
-The pitch was littered with rubbish when we arrived, including water balloons, a bag of dog poo and cigarette butts.
-The pot wash area had no lighting, a dirty floor and a bag of rotting rubbish in the corner. This was flagged up to the owner by another camper. Nothing was done until this was flagged up again the following day.
-The owner was loud and aggressive, unprofessionally speaking on the phone about a member of staff.
-The toilets ran out of toilet roll. No hand soap.
-We had originally planned to extend our stay by a night. Due to the expensive cost and basic site, we stayed elsewhere for our final night.

Disliked -Basic shower/toilet block which was just passible in terms of cleanliness, but had no hand soap
-Washing up 'cabin' which was tiny, filthy (open bags of rubbish spilling onto the floor - our pointing this out to the owner was ignored for 24hrs and needed a 2nd reminder before anything was done) and no light for washing up after dark
-The bits of rubbish including bag of door poo left on our pitch from previous campers
-No clear demarcation between pitches which resulted in tents being close together on one side, but lots of open space on the other
-No check-in procedure/welcome
-Owner who was loud and aggressive

Liked I would love to be more positive about this site because it has good potential! We stopped in middle of the school holidays for a late booking due to a cancellation elsewhere. The site was busy at the weekend but during the week it was empty apart from a maybe 2 other campers, I think this might be down to issues below!
The site is part of the pub. So on our first night we headed in for a drink. Staff seem friendly enough however it was quiet when we went in. Apparently the night before they had a massive party.

Disliked This is where positives end! The facilities are shocking! They are filthy! They were never cleaned while we were on site other than a filthy mop left out side the shower. Regularly no toilet roll in the loos. Frustratingly we are not only person in reviews to have reported this and it doesn’t seem the owners address it. They are the kind of facilities I would find at a festival! For the price we paid I expect a lot better. To be honest it’s way overpriced and probably why it was the only site we could find in the area for the weekend. We also found the water taps were been taken over by the resident caravans on site as well.
The spacing between pitches is very close as well. When we arrived we were shoe horned in between some campers and a motorhome. It was OK following day as both left.

We never got to eat in the pub. The chef was hungover apparently on the Saturday night.

Disliked 📍 Kingsmoor Retreat – Coalville, Leicestershire

Unfortunately, this is one that’s firmly on our “avoid in future” list.

The site itself is very compact, with the pitches feeling extremely close together. We really felt as though we were living on top of one another, which isn’t something we particularly enjoy.

The toilet and shower facilities are in a Portacabin-style block and, sadly, they weren’t very well maintained. Malcolm went to use the toilet and came straight back saying how disgusting it was. As the showers were in the same facilities, that was enough for us and we decided to use our own facilities in the motorhome for the duration of our stay.

Our arrival didn’t give us the best first impression either. The gentleman who met us was bare-chested and wearing just a pair of shorts, which didn’t feel particularly professional. When we went to pay the remaining balance, I showed him our booking with the price we’d been given and he immediately said, “It won’t be that,” before reeling off various extras which added another £12 to the cost.

Now, £12 might not sound like a huge amount, but when you’re travelling full-time, every little extra soon adds up, and for us it was more about the attitude and being presented with additional charges when we arrived.

So, all in all, Kingsmoor Retreat just wasn’t for us and we wouldn’t return. In fact, I didn’t even bother taking my usual photos of the site — the only ones I took were of the shower facilities, the toilet I couldn’t take one as it was too disgusting which probably says it all! 🙈

You win some, you lose some with this lifestyle… and this one was definitely a miss! 🚐😬

Liked Just back home after a 2 night stay at kingsmoor retreat..
After arriving quite late were met by the owner who gladly checked us, secured payment and kindly walked us down to our pitch. He explained everything to us perfectly which sadly included no bbq or firepit as we all received a government warning on our phones for fires in the area..
Regardless, we still managed to have a great stay. We had everything we needed, flat pitch, friendly neighbours, showers, slightly run down but perfectly hot. Well stocked toilets, and a facility for washing pots, although we did struggle as when washing at night there was no light, maybe something to look at for the owner..
The pub at the end of the site was perfect, lovely garden to sit out while enjoying the sun.
All in all, a good value site which ticked all our boxes, we will return as being a 30 min drive is just far enough to us to consider it a break.
