Cre8 Glamping at Redricks: Exterior

General

  • Dog-friendly family glamping site in the Hertfordshire countryside
  • Horse riding and climbing nearby; on the border of Essex and Cambridge
  • Lakes for swimming, canoeing and fishing; water park; café and bar

From a paddle in the lake to channelling your inner yogi onshore… hunker down at Glamping at Redricks Lake, a dog-friendly family glamping site on the border between Essex and Cambridge, surrounded by the Hertfordshire countryside on the outskirts of the Sawbridgeworth market town. With two signature lakes on site, this is a great place to rest, retreat and clear the mind, with London an hour and 10 minutes away by train.

Do as little or as much as you want to… brush up on your swimming skills in the lakes (they’re licensed for open water swimming and there are coaching sessions on Wednesday evenings), dally around the woodland trails or dive right in with the kids at Aqua Splash. Reconnect with your inner child (or join your own children) on the inflatable waterpark too. Afterwards, there are hot showers on site to wash off under.

If swimming isn’t your thing, there are canoes for hire too… or you may want to stay on the shore and head to four purpose-built fishing lakes on site (including specimen carp up to 40lbs, mixed fishery and a match lake). Fancy yourself rather crafty? The site also runs marksmanship classes and (if you want to test how flexible you are) Ishvari yoga classes.

You’re likely to have worked up an appetite. If so, the lakeside café sells a good bacon sandwich or there are chilled drinks at the on-site bar. And when you feel like venturing off the site, there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops within five minutes’ drive.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Minimum spacing of 10 metres between pitches.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The bar is open between 17/05 and 08/11.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

The restaurant is open between 17/05 and 08/11.

Facilities/activities including access to Aqua Splash, yoga, riffle shooting are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Entertainment and activities are available between 17/05 and 08/11.

The grocery shop is open between 17/05 and 08/11.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Utterly wild and wonderful August break with family26/08/2021

Great canvas bell tent, comfy beds, charging for phone’s. Bbq benches and fire pit. Fab!! Woodland adventures with kids and wild swimming lake which is truly beautiful and clean with a man made beach so bring buckets and spade! Helpful staff who gave us batches after we forgot them. So friendly. My granddaughter loved it and was feral in hours🤣 she swam in the lake and had the best time with kids on the site. Ignore the moaning minnies who should stick to hotels and have a wild experience. I wasn’t bothered by aeroplanes as I live in an inner city anyway. It’s fun watching them. Take a camp cooker for ur morning tea or coffee and wood for camp fire and have a damn good break.

Sawdust loos and s greener approach to the site would have been lovely. The showers and loos are basic but clean.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Good warm showers and very big spacious tent. Had a great time camping with young kids and friends.

    Disliked:

Toilets are clean, but due the chemicals they use the smell is very deep. Also it's a bit noisy due close to the airport.

    The open water swimming

    Reception staff were lovely

    Disliked:

The toilet block were 3 port-a loos and smelt disgusting , apparently the men’s were worse!
The site webpage and photos were VERY misleading we expected to be going to a serene glamping site IN the country and it wasn’t it was more like tents in a car park very much a pop up shop.
    Not luxury at all.
The crockery that was there were cheap plastic plates and cutlery and were dirty and there were no mugs for a morning cup of tea.
The on-site food was a greasy burger van that was open for an hr in the evening and not open for breakfast as described.
The site is over the flight path for Stansted airport and flights start at 06.30.
If you go bring LOTS of bug spray we got eaten alive

Tent was nice and comfortable, table, bbq and fire pit provided and very helpful. Nike little lake to swim in with a small sandy beach, we enjoyed that. Cafe is nice as well

    Disliked:

I think there is factory nearby which operates at night as well, it became very noisy at night and couldn’t sleep at all. It sounded like there was a helicopter hovering constantly. Lovely place but as a light sleeper i wouldn’t return.
Airport is nearby as well and planes are flying quite low.

Local attractions

Could climbing or golf be your calling? From here you can find out, as there’s a climbing wall (five minutes’ drive) or The Manor’s (10 minutes) grand golf course. If you’d rather go for a leisurely trot in the countryside, the local horse riding stables (10 minutes) might be more up your street.

For an interaction with animals that are a little more exotic, Paradise Wildlife Park (half an hour) has zookeeping, photography and animal experiences with animals such as lizards, lemurs and tapirs.

To see animals in their natural habitat too, Pishiobury Park’s (35 minutes’ walk) woodlands and parklands are rather ripe grounds for spying on birdlife – just bring your binoculars along. You may catch a bird or two (or a creature in the bushes) along the ancient woodland trails around Epping Forest (35 minutes’ drive) too.

Once used by royals for hunting, now you may walk or trot your way around the National Trust’s Hatfield Forest (half an hour). The historic Hylands House (45 minutes) is also set up for a fanciful day out among the stables, gardens, playgrounds and artist studios around the country park.

Must see

  • Lee Valley Regional Park (8.7 miles)
  • Hatfield House (14.0 miles)
  • Knebworth House (15.1 miles)

National Trust

  • Shaw's Corner (16.6 miles)
