From a paddle in the lake to channelling your inner yogi on shore… there are lots of ways to relax at Glamping at Redricks Lakes, a dog-friendly family glampsite on the border between Essex and Cambridgeshire, surrounded by the Hertfordshire countryside on the outskirts of Sawbridgeworth. With two signature lakes on site, this is a great place to rest, retreat and clear the mind – and only a little over an hour from London by train. Do as little or as much as you want to… brush up on your swimming skills in the lakes (they’re licensed for open water swimming and there are coaching sessions on Wednesday evenings), dally around the woodland trails, dive right in with the kids at Aqua Splash or reconnect with your inner child on the inflatable waterpark. Afterwards, there are hot showers on site for washing off in. If swimming isn’t your thing, there are canoes for hire too. Fancy yourself rather crafty? The site also runs marksmanship classes and (if you want to improve your flexibility) Ishvari yoga classes. The furnished bell tents here are in spacious positions in the site's field, with ample space for guests to park bikes and paddleboards – and, of course, framed by the gorgeous woodlands and open-water adventure lake (with easy access to all the facilities and the space you need to fully enjoy your break). You’re likely to have worked up an appetite. If so, the lakeside café sells a good bacon sandwich or there are chilled drinks at the on-site bar. And when you feel like venturing off the site, there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops within five minutes’ drive.

Could climbing or golf be your calling? Well, close by is a climbing wall (five minutes’ drive) or The Manor’s grand golf course (10 minutes). If you’d rather go for a leisurely trot in the countryside, visit the local horse riding stables (10 minutes). To see animals that are a little more exotic, Paradise Wildlife Park (half an hour) has zookeeping, photography and animal experiences with animals such as lizards, lemurs and tapirs. Pishiobury Park’s (35 minutes’ walk) woodlands and parklands, on the other hand, are rather ripe grounds for spying on birdlife. You may spot a bird or two (or a creature in the bushes) along the ancient woodland trails around Epping Forest (35 minutes’ drive) too. Elsewhere, walk or trot your way around the National Trust’s Hatfield Forest (half an hour), once used by royals for hunting. The historic Hylands House (45 minutes) is also set up for a fanciful day out among the country park's stables, gardens, playgrounds and artist studios.

喜欢 Big field to ride bike about as a round child.

不喜欢 No hot water for most of the duration of our stay.
1/3 showers working in the ladies
1/3 toilets blocked in the ladies
Eldest son got electric shock in men’s showers
Got puncture driving out of lane.
VERY LOUD industrial building throughout the night
No one insisting the on the 10pm quiet rule very loud groups around us till early hours.
Aqua park closed for caring reasons for the duration of our stay.
If planning on going paddleboarding be aware even though large lake you can only paddleboard/ canoe in a very small area so wasn’t worth blowing up anything more than 1 paddleboard.

不喜欢 Signs showing where the camp is are not clearly visible, poor quality furnishing in the bell tent which is pricey, toilets cleanliness state is very poor

喜欢 Great place to come lots for the kids to do especially the lake swimming. Food also available on site, the manager Russ I think was super friendly and helpful.

不喜欢 Washing up taps didn’t seem to be working.

喜欢 Swimming lake, DJ playing until 9pm, can order food if you don’t want to bbq. Car park was nearby tents and a toilet roll was provided on arrival

不喜欢 Construction noise through the night meant we had no sleep unfortunately. The photos also show the beds inside the tents have pillows and duvets as we “glamped” but these were not provided, luckily we brought sleeping bags just incase. Fire wood was advised not to bring your own and buy on site but then there was no one attending the office to buy some when we needed it

喜欢 Excellent experience. Definitely recommend and come again. Picturesque site of nature. Small clean lake where everyone can swim or just have a splash.
Not overcrowded.
Good food for good value.
Perfect for families with children who can always make here some new friends.
The staff is really helpful. They are always in touch.
We just relaxed and enjoyed music on the sandy beach.
