Theobalds park site plan
A warm spring day at theobalds park
Holiday makers enjoying the large hardstanding pitches

  • Family-friendly Hertfordshire touring site near Waltham Cross
  • A 35-minute drive to Warner Bros. Studio Tour for Harry Potter fans
  • Easy access from the M25 and close to London train services
The words ‘camping’ and ‘London’ don't often go together – so when you find a site that manages both it’s well worth taking a look. Just to the north of the capital, Theobalds Park is in a handy Hertfordshire spot that gives you all the greenery and fresh air of a countryside campsite plus easy access to central London for days out. The hardstanding touring pitches here are set in lovely woodland surroundings with open grass areas and plenty of space to relax in the open air. Dogs and kids are welcome; the on-site launderette may prove useful for any muddy mishaps they might have. A motorhome service point is also provided, along with toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible facilities). Getting here should be nice and straightforward, as the location is very close to Junction 25 of the M25, where the orbital meets the A10. It’s just outside the town of Waltham Cross, putting it within easy reach of shops and places to eat (you’ll be allowed a barbecue on site, by the way, so pack yours if you fancy some alfresco cooking). The town’s railway station is a very useful facility as well, with services taking you into central London in about half an hour. Not that it’s all about city day trips when you stay here though – being in the outskirts means you’ll also be able to plan outdoor activities like walks, fishing and birdwatching or opt for some of outer London’s attractions like the Natural History Museum at Tring or the popular Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

What customers say

This well-located campsite offers spacious, level pitches with convenient access to electricity and water. Guests frequently praised the friendly and helpful staff, and found the site to be clean and tidy overall. Its proximity to London was a significant advantage for many visitors. Some reviews noted issues with the cleanliness and maintenance of toilet facilities and a lack of bins, though management indicated improvements are being made. Noise from the nearby M25 was mentioned by a few, and access to public transport required a taxi or longer walk.

Liked A lovely site with very nice facilities. Good position for getting into London. Also, Kevin was very responsive to our possibility of being late arriving, as we were, and the online checkin was very easy

Disliked Could do with some more drinking water taps

Liked Level area, large enough. Electricity and water close by. Warm water in shower and to do dishes

Disliked Sanitary block could be cleaner. No garbage bins so paper is left.

From the manager: Hi,

Thank you for your review.

Apologies for the garbage bin, it's the 4th one we've had stolen from the ladies! The same people also make the facilities extra dirty - regardless of how many times they are cleaned :-(

More have been ordered.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Pitch was fairly level. Friendly staff. Convenient place to stop to break up a long journey. Close to M25. Has a separate car park.

Disliked Quite a long walk to shops and bus stops. Pub was closer. Quite expensive at £45 per night for a pitch including electric.

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are working on ways to prevent the bookings from those that choose to ruin the experience for others.

Keine Sichtkontrolle zwischendurch. 6 Toiletten verfügbar, 2 out of Order, 4 so vermutzt daher nicht benutzbar bzw. kein Klopapier vorhanden.

From the manager: Hi,
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I know it doesn't help you but we have had unusually untidy and destructive group of guests this past of couple of weeks. Our facilities, as you will see from previous reviews are normally very good. The office was closed upon arrival as it was 46c inside and not possible to work in the office - I'm glad that the self check-in worked well for you.

On the Tuesday it was my day off (I am the only full-time member of staff) and as you say, the facilities were neglected as the cleaner failed to turn-up, I was off-site and not notified until 7.30pm, at which time I returned to site and cleaned the facilities - not half-heartedly - but maybe not as effecient as a professional cleaner.

We do advise all people when they arrive that to visit London it is best to use an Uber or Taxi to the nearest station as the walk is 30 minutes - we do not mislead anyone on this. Any closer to London would incur ULEZ charges for guests, so we are an ideal compromise.

I am working on ways to help minimise these kinds of experiences in the future.

Kommen wieder, jedoch andere Erwartungshaltung

Frechheit!

Local attractions

London has to be the big attraction, of course – hop on the train for half an hour and you’ll be right there in one of the world's great cities. The list of things to do is almost endless – first-timers will definitely want to see landmarks like Big Ben, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace but there are heaps of interesting things around for all ages and tastes. If you don’t fancy the crowds of central London, take a look at local options – perhaps wandering in the gardens at Forty Hall Estate (five minutes' drive), meeting the animals at Willows Activity Farm (20 minutes) or exploring the eclectic exhibits at the Natural History Museum at Tring (45 minutes). Fans of a certain boy wizard will surely be delighted with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour (35 minutes) too. Fancy some outdoor time? Head to Lee Valley Country Park (10 minutes) for walks, fishing, birdwatching and cycling, or adrenaline activities at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Epping Forest (15 minutes) is another good option for a long walk or bike ride.
