Foxholes Farm: The safari tent

General

  • Smart safari lodge with lake view, hot tub and barbecue provided
  • A five-minute drive to Hertford; 20 minutes to Hatfield House
  • Free entry to on-site farm park; discount on farm shop purchases

A comfy base, a lake and a farm shop to sort you out with bits for the barbecue… if that sounds like your kind of wishlist, head to the Hertfordshire countryside and a stay at Foxholes Farm. This is a place where rural atmosphere meets luxury accommodation… and with lakes around the site, there’s a good view to be had - just the place to unwind with a drink in hand perhaps. Of course, there’s always the option of preparing the grill for some alfresco dining.

With a farm shop that’s well-stocked with local beef and rare-breed pork for your grill, along with fresh veg and various cakes and treats, you’ll be able to feed yourselves well (and you’ll get a bit of a discount on the standard prices to make everything taste even better…)

On top of that, there’s also a farm park on the same site where kids (even the grownup ones) can meet alpacas, lambs, pigs and other farm animals; you'll get free entry to this thrown in as well.

This little slice of rural life may well feel like it’s completely immersed in the countryside but in fact it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Hertford and the A10, which means easy access to shops and pubs when you want them, and to the road network for days out around the area.

Please note

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Great location and a very warm welcome from our hosts. The safari tent is on a farm which meant we got the opportunity to go and feed the pigs, donkeys, cows and goats!
The tent was brilliant! More than we expected. Loads of room, nicely furnished, beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The hot tub was a lovely addition too.
Definitely recommend for a relaxing weekend away

The peaceful location, stunning views and the farm animals, were a firm hit with all of us. The hot tub was the star of the show and got used all weekend! Stunning to sit and look at those views day and night. Welcoming and friendly staff from the farm shop to the lovely lady that showed us to the safari tent and around the farm whilst she tended to the new born goats.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike just a suggestion that more seating on the decking would be nice and maybe even a lounger or two. A toaster would also be really handy.

I loved everything about Foxholes, the staff were so welcoming and went over and above to ensure we had everything we needed. The BBQ and breakfast pack from the farmshop was delicious and plentiful and having the charcoal supplied was great! The cabin was very clean, tidy and the little touches really made it feel homely.
The setting is fabulous and we really felt as though this was an escape. The hot tub was a great touch got plenty of use and using firewood to heat it was a great experience.
The farm is lovely and it was lovely to wonder around with no other visitors and being able to get up close to the animals and feed them.
We had a truly lovely break at the Highlands cabin at Foxholes and I feel so lucky to have found it and experience it.
Thank you to all the staff who were all so lovely and helpful.

There are big cats, meerkats, penguins and plenty of extra animals at Paradise Wildlife Park (15 minutes), but those of you who are ready to introduce some historical places into your itinerary might want to take off to the Hertford Museum (five minutes) or Hatfield House (20 minutes), a fine example of a Jacobean house and garden.

What else to pack into your stay? Perhaps bowling or skating on Hartham Common (10 minutes)? A round of golf with the gang at Chadwell Springs Family Golf Centre (five minutes)? Or for the more adventurous folks among you, the Lea Valley White Water Centre (20 minutes) runs canoeing and kayaking courses on the lake or their bumpier whitewater rafting activities.
