Foxholes Farm: Tent by the lake

General

  • Smart safari lodge with lake view, hot tub and barbecue provided
  • A five-minute drive to Hertford; 20 minutes to Hatfield House
  • Free entry to on-site farm park; discount on farm shop purchases

A comfy tent, a lake, a hot tub, and a farm shop to sort you out with bits for the barbecue… if that sounds like your kind of wishlist, head to the Hertfordshire countryside and a stay at Foxholes Farm.

This is a place where rural atmosphere meets luxury accommodation, in the form of a smart safari lodge that’s kitted out with two double bedrooms, a lounge area, a top-notch kitchen, a kids’ play room and a fully-equipped bathroom. Seating is provided on the deck so you can relax and take in the view over the lake with a drink in hand – and of course there’s always the option of bubbling away in the wood-fired hot tub for a while…

And that farm shop? It’s well stocked with local beef and rare-breed pork for your grill, along with fresh veg and various cakes and treats, so you’ll be able to feed yourselves well (and you’ll get a bit of a discount on the standard prices to make everything taste even better…). There’s also a farm park on the same site where kids (even the grownup ones) can meet alpacas, lambs, pigs and other farm animals; you'll get free entry to this thrown in as well.

This little slice of rural life may well feel like it’s completely immersed in the countryside but in fact it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Hertford and the A10, which means easy access to shops and pubs when you want them, and to the road network for days out around the area.

Please note

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Great setting with wonderful lakeside view.08/03/2021

This was a lovely setting with amazing views onto the lake. In terms of the cabin, everything felt very clean and new. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was immaculate with a decent powerful shower.
The owners left a complimentary cream tea and bags of food to feed the animals which were both lovely touches :-)

    Disliked:

I think the cabin we stayed in was fairly new and so I am sure that work is still ongoing to improve the setting. This feedback is purely to help improve the experience for others -
The area around the hot tub was really muddy (maybe because they are emptied regularly) and so it wasn’t a seamless experience to get from the cabin to the hot tub and we had to keep swapping shoes (all our trainers got super muddy and need to go in the washing machine!) extending the decking to the hot tub would make all the difference!
The view of the lake is amazing but the person sitting the other side of the hot tub had a view of the partly finished tarmac track, piles of soil and hosepipe etc. maybe some screening on this side would help.
There were lots of flies in the cabin, we spent a good half an hour one night trying to get them out to no avail. We uses the citronella candle provided but it made no difference.
Although the cabin was well equipped there was no toaster, but there was a toast holder?! We tried to use the grill instead but couldn’t get it to stay lit - maybe we were doing something wrong but there were no instructions so can’t be sure.
The weather wasn’t great when we were there but unlike the safari tent there was nowhere outside under cover to sit so we were stuck inside. Although there is a little overhang by the door, it wasn’t enough to keep anything dry so we had to try our best to cover up our muddy shoes with bags.

Loved our stay in the glamping tent, the hosts were really friendly and super accommodating, we arrived after the shop closed but they put some bbq bits aside for us to collect when we arrived. The location of the tent is fantastic by the lake and the tent was brilliantly equipped with everything we could want, incl bread, milk and a cream tea. The boys loved the hot tub. Great farm shop - all in all would certainly recommend staying here.

Peaceful, revitalising, friendly. Absolutey loved the goats. The cabin was to die for! Everything had been thought about and it really was what it said on the box. The hot tub was complete indulgence and gave us time to sit and chill in the evening. The view from the verandah of the serene lake was just so peacful, and provided a great space for a family barbeque.

Wandering around the farm was such fun as the goats followed us around, and tried to eat just about everyting. The staff were attentive but not in the slightest bit intrusive. They made it clear that they were on the other end of the phone if we needed them, but we didn't and so they left us alone.

I feel like I am writing a sales pitch here, but I'm not. It was jsut that good!
    Would I recommend it? 100%

What an amazing getaway and great location. Everyone at the farm was so friendly and helpful. We had afternoon tea waiting for us when we arrived and hot tub was ready for us to get into. We purchased the BBQ pack and Breakfast pack which was delicious and the farm shop has loads of goodies! The sunset was gorgeous from the safari tent, it felt like we weren’t even in the UK. We will definitely be staying again!!
