A stay at Herefordshire’s peaceful and oh-so-prettily landscaped Broadmeadow Caravan Park puts you in pole position for explorations of the neighbouring counties of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Monmouthshire – on both sides of the English-Welsh border. Tucked into a quiet lakeside corner of the lively market town of Ross-on-Wye, the touring site has spacious and level grass pitches equipped with electric hook-ups. Handily positioned water taps and waste-disposal points ensure convenience throughout your stay, along with two well-appointed toilet and shower blocks with wheelchair-accessible and family facilities. Please note that during quieter periods, one block may be closed. You can stroll the extensive grounds around the two on-site lakes. Your four-legged chums are welcome to join you on site too, and there is a dedicated dog-exercise area available. Sporting facilities in Ross include an indoor swimming pool and gym (good rainy-day ideas), a putting green and tennis courts. Within a radius of about 20 minutes’ drive, you can also play golf, go pony trekking, canoeing, fishing, cycling or mountain biking, see a film, have a flutter on the horses and take river cruises along the Wye.

Liked Close to town toilet facilities good and very clean friendly warden

Disliked Storage yard close by and they just happened to be loading scaffolding at 6.30am that day
so had an early breakfast to make up for it

Liked Don't be put off by the approach through the industrial estate. Once you arrive, it's a completely different story. The park is very well maintained, the pitches are spacious, and we received a warm, friendly welcome. The shower and toilet block is spotless, with powerful hot showers, although the timer is a little short. The drive-through motorhome service point is excellent, with separate grey and black waste disposal and even soap provided, which was a thoughtful touch. The location is ideal too, with Morrisons just five minutes away and Ross-on-Wye town centre another five minutes beyond, offering plenty of lovely independent cafés, bars and restaurants.

Disliked My only real criticism is the number of irresponsible dog owners. I have no problem with dogs and appreciate the site is dog friendly, but "dog friendly" shouldn't mean everyone else has to listen to excessive barking because some owners don't train or control their dogs properly. It occasionally spoilt what is otherwise a peaceful site.

Liked Grass was well maintained. Facilities were ok, but could've been cleaner.

Disliked All campers to face the same direction due to "owners privilege". Had to be on a pitch that was furthest away from the ehu point and as a result our cable was stretched diagonally across another pitch. Facing a particular way also resulted in having to be in the shade of our camper in the evenings. Was given a pitch closest to the toilet block, bins and waste disposal.

Yes it is owners privilege that all units face the same way towards the lake.
If you had asked maybe we could have looked at moving you to another pitch but if we are not asked we do not know.
Also if you would have asked we could have given you a longer cable to use whilst on site but again you never asked.

Liked Lovely spaces, close to town, water very close to the pitch, very clean and tidy everywhere. Just a heads up, you have to go through an industrial estate to get the site. We thought we’d gone the wrong way 😂😂

Local attractions

The top local attraction is probably Tintern Abbey (35 minutes’ drive), the Gothic-era ruin with a splendid setting alongside the River Wye that has been repeatedly immortalised in poetry. Other local cultural assets include a brace of impressive castles: the remains of Norman-era Goodrich Castle (15 minutes) and vast Eastnor (25 minutes), completed in 1824 and open for tours. If you’re on holiday as a family, go for easy hikes in the Forest of Dean (25 minutes), where you can follow a madcap sculpture trail. The walks through moss-covered Puzzlewood (half an hour) lead through gorges, and there are treasure hunts for the kids as well as information boards detailing the history and geology of the woodland. If you need to up the activity ante, there are plenty of cycle routes to follow too, and the more daring of you can go canyoning along the Wye from Symonds Yat (15 minutes), which is also a popular starting point for kayaking expeditions on the river. When the kids still have energy to burn, let them loose on the rope trails at Go Ape Beechenhurst (25 minutes).
