The Yurt at Midland Farm is an exclusive-use glamping unit in a peaceful location on a farm in the Herefordshire countryside, around 10 miles from Hay-on-Wye and 12 miles from Hereford. You'll be surrounded by the farm's gorgeous gardens, which are so well-tended they've been featured in the Royal Horticultural Society's magazine, and are open to the public a couple of times a year. There's also a wildlife pond and you're likely to encounter plenty of bird life – a heron is sometimes spotted at the pond and you can often hear owls hooting in the woods by night. The yurt itself is your sleeping area – inside you've got a large French antique double bed and two single beds, along with a woodburning stove and Indian throws and rugs to keep things cosy. Next to the yurt is a shepherd's hut containing your private retro-style kitchen, dining room and a bathroom with shower and proper toilet. The two structures are linked by a wooden deck, which has outdoor furniture and a chimenea for keeping you warm on a chilly evening – or maybe for toasting a few marshmallows. There's also a garden area where you can picnic or cook on a barbecue. For food, there's a shop and butcher in Weobley, 15 minutes' drive away. Closer to home, you can collect eggs and homegrown veg around the farm, and home-baked bread is often available for guests as well. If you'd like to eat out, there's great food at the Tram in Eardisley, a 10-minute drive away, along with a good pint of local ale for the non-drivers.
