  • Simple pitches at a peaceful Herefordshire working smallholding
  • Hereford 15 minutes' drive; five minutes to the Wye for fishing
  • Family-friendly site; kids can collect eggs and feed animals
Heading to Herefordshire in search of a slice of the simple life? You’ll certainly get that at Primrose Smallholding and Camping – guests here join the goats, sheep, chickens and other resident animals at a working smallholding in a lovely, peaceful setting near the little village of Holme Lacy. Book in at this family-friendly site and you’ll be staying in a three-acre field where guest numbers are capped to make sure everyone has plenty of space to pitch up and relax, and for kids to run about and play games in the open air. They’ll also be able to enjoy farm activities like collecting eggs or feeding the goats and sheep. Eggs are also available to buy for a taste of the farm with your breakfast or dinner. To cook up those meals, you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue or firepit (no open or ground fires, thanks, and please supervise children at all times). There’s a hot portable shower, spotlessly clean event toilets and a hot-water washing-up area on site; other facilities include a fresh drinking water point, a communal fridge and freezer, a central phone-charging point and recycling and waste facilities. Heading out and about, there are plenty of walks nearby (Haugh Wood, 10 minutes’ drive away is a favourite) and the River Wye is five minutes’ drive away for coarse fishing, canoeing or paddleboarding. And while this place feels very rural, it’s actually only a 15-minute drive to the centre of Hereford – head there by day to explore the historic city centre or ask on site about the subsidised taxi service for an evening out.

Liked The perfect place to stay for a week or so.
There is a lot of stuff for kids to keep them occupied.

The owner is a great person – really friendly and helpful with clues on where to go, etc.
Lovely hikes around the river, dog-friendly, and campfires are allowed (you can get fire pits from the owner if you don't have your own)

Disliked camp is close to road and you can hear cars passing be but it was not a big deal for us, but that is only think i can think of.
worth to go and check by you

From the manager: Hi Robert
Many thanks for leaving us a review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us here at Primrose Smallholding. We are continuing to add to our collection of good old fashioned games and toys for the kids! In terms of road noise, agree there is some during the peak periods but it's a trade off being so close to Hereford which is incredibly helpful whilst far enough away to enjoy the countryside! Take care, we hope to see you all again soon

Liked An absolute gem of a campsite, small and very personal; the owners Paul and Jane are fabulous hosts. All the essential facilities are available, the toilets and shower were always clean, the provision of fridge, freezer and somewhere to charge devices was really useful. Paul and Jane go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. The provision of a badminton net, swingball sets and a large connect 4 was brilliant, and Paul’s tour of the animals on their small holding was thoroughly enjoyable (adults and children alike ☺️). We will most definitely be back!

Thank you so much for leaving us a review. Yes it super hot during your stay wasn't it! Glad you enjoyed your time with us and thanks for commenting positively on the facilities, we work hard to maintain high standards. We also note your comment about feeling safe. Liked This is a perfect little campsite, with a lovely feel to it. A beautiful spot and well-located. The owners are wonderful hosts. Facilities are spotlessly clean, with a good shower and toilets, and a dedicated area for washing up (with hot water, too!). Enjoy a morning walk round of the animals on the smallholding - the highlight being 3-day old Pygmy goats. A really handy spot for USB/C charging of devices, plus garden games such as Connect 4, swing ball etc. If you’d enjoy a quiet, peaceful camping experience in a pretty part of the country, you’ll want to stay here.

Liked Beautiful setting, Well maintained, it's obvious the owners take great pride in everything they do and have considered every detail to make guests feel welcomed and comfortable during their stay.
The kids loved the farm tour, games on the field & making stores on the fire pit that is available to hire on site.
We'd highly recommend Primrose small holding for family camping.
Thank you Paul for your hospitality and for your attention to details.

From the manager: Michelle, thank you very much for your lovely review.
So glad your children had a good time and made use of the outdoor games, we hope to add a few more games and simple play equipment in the coming weeks to maximise the open space. We can't install anything permanent of course because as a pop up site, the whole field has to be returned to the sheep at the end of the camping season!
Thanks again for taking the time to leave us a review
PS - I thought your sunset photo with the firepit in the foreground was fab!

From the manager: Thank you very much for leaving us a review. I had copied & pasted your private feedback below which I think was intended to be part of your main review but isn't visible to other campers - hope you don't mind, but I think it would be very helpful for other guests to read, here it is....
Private feedback:Great campsite for the cost. We really enjoyed our stay as a family. My children 5 & 7 loved feeding the animals and the activities put out on the field. We could also relax letting them explore as it felt very safe. The campsite was very clean, couldn't fault the toilets and shower. Our first time going camping without electric and it was great. The fridge and freezer on site really helped with it being so hot. The owner was away on our visit but his brother and wife did an excellent job and made us feel very welcome. We couldn't fault our stay and will definitely be returning in the future and telling friends. Thank you.

Liked Would give 100 stars if possible. Paul was incredibly welcoming and helpful, going above and beyond several times (allowing us to reschedule our stay due to illness, and posting forgotten water bottles back to us after our stay). The camping field was massive and impeccably clean. With only 10 or so camping parties allowed, there was so much space to spread out and not be on top of your neighbour. We loved that there were no allocated pitches so we could go where suited us and have an adjoining space to our friends who joined us. There was a badminton set, swing ball, giant connect 4, and tug of war rope that all of the kids (and adults) thoroughly enjoyed. The loos were spotless, well stocked with toilet roll, and never smelt. The shower, while small, was powerful and hot - it's the samr electric shower we have in our house! The washing up sink was a full size sink with hot water and plenty of space. The shed onsite included a massive fridge and chest freezer for campers to use which was amazing having kids and keeping snacks and ice packs cold. There was also a charging station for electronics. The extras were truly unrivaled. Every morning Paul also offered a tour of his goats, chickens, and sheep allowing our children to help him feed them, pet them, and he provided loads of information about the animals and what it is like to keep them. Paul checked in several times throughout our stay, and we loved the option to hire a firepit/wood which saved room when packing. He provided recommendations of local pubs and shops and was very helpful. We absolutely loved our weekend here and plan to return again and have been recommending Paul and Primrose Smallholding Campsite to everyone we know that likes camping. Quiet, clean, spacious, safe, and friendly...what more could you ask for?
