  • Simple pitches at a peaceful Herefordshire working smallholding
  • Hereford 15 minutes' drive; five minutes to the Wye for fishing
  • Family-friendly site; kids can collect eggs and feed animals
Heading to Herefordshire in search of a slice of the simple life? You’ll certainly get that at Primrose Smallholding and Camping – guests here join the goats, sheep, chickens and other resident animals at a working smallholding in a lovely, peaceful setting near the little village of Holme Lacy. Book in at this family-friendly site and you’ll be staying in a three-acre field where guest numbers are capped to make sure everyone has plenty of space to pitch up and relax, and for kids to run about and play games in the open air. They’ll also be able to enjoy farm activities like collecting eggs or feeding the goats and sheep. Eggs are also available to buy for a taste of the farm with your breakfast or dinner. To cook up those meals, you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue or firepit (no open or ground fires, thanks, and please supervise children at all times). There’s a hot portable shower, spotlessly clean event toilets and a hot-water washing-up area on site; other facilities include a fresh drinking water point, a communal fridge and freezer, a central phone-charging point and recycling and waste facilities. Heading out and about, there are plenty of walks nearby (Haugh Wood, 10 minutes’ drive away is a favourite) and the River Wye is five minutes’ drive away for coarse fishing, canoeing or paddleboarding. And while this place feels very rural, it’s actually only a 15-minute drive to the centre of Hereford – head there by day to explore the historic city centre or ask on site about the subsidised taxi service for an evening out.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I Loved the fact we could choose our own spot to pitch, we chose a shaded area by the trees due to the heat wave and taking the dog with us.
Facilities were spotlessly clean, the toilets, washing up area, and shower (although we didn’t need to use the shower during our stay as we were so close to home and chose to shower at home due to it being too hot for the dog during the day), a full size fridge and deep chest freezer available, usb charging available (we didn’t need to use as we take a power station with us).
Some lawn games set up which was a lovely touch.
The animal tour in the mornings was a lovely treat which my daughter really enjoyed :)
We spoke with Paul every day when he came round to check on everyone and he was a lovely, friendly, knowledgable gentleman who just wants to make sure everyone gets the most out of their stay!
Although close to the main road it was not a problem noise wise and we still managed to get great sleep, being awoken to the sound of goats bleating was lovely too!
The views are incredible around the site and access was fantastic we felt safe and secure and everything was well sign posted for ease :)
Thank you Paul and Jane, we had a wonderful 2 nights!

Disliked Honestly I could not name one thing we disliked about our stay!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked came here to test out our first time camping, beautiful place, Paul was very friendly and welcoming, toilets and shower were very clean, There was a fridge and freezer on site, also USB ports for charging devices if needed, a wash up area and fresh cold water supply, had a lovely tour of the animals the following morning, and Bambi the goat was lovely. The field you stay on has a few games for people to play, football, badminton, Swingball, connect 4 and a tug if war rope. the price is more then reasonable for what you get, will definitely stay here again in the future

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay with us! We are a simple, traditional campsite but we still offer enough facilities to make camping stays convenient and comfortable. Everyone seems to enjoy the animal tours and who can't resist feeling sorry for Bambi our ever so friendly goat!
We hope to see you again next season, thank you for visiting.
