General

  • In a walkers' paradise in the Herefordshire countryside
  • Direct access to several trails including the Wye Valley Walk
  • Fully insulated pods with ensuite

Luxury insulated pods in the Herefordshire countryside – with their own cooking facilities, ensuite toilet and full-sized shower… what a base to come back to after a long day spent tramping the local paths.

Of which there are many… Caplor Farm's Herefordshire border setting in Fownhope has it firmly in a walkers' paradise, with direct access to miles of trails including the popular Wye Valley Walk, the 136 miles of scenic countryside from Chepstow in Monmouthshire to Plynlimon in Powys.

Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and plenty of other outdoor activities are all around here too, or you could treat yourself to properly easy time with gentle Herefordshire strolls, a look around the north of the county's black and white houses, the likes of Eastnor and Goodrich castles within nine miles, or the Hereford Cider Route (picking up samples along the way, of course).

Each luxury pod is fully insulated and handsomely furnished, and has an ensuite toilet, a full-sized shower, cooking facilities, dining table and chairs, and bed linen and towels provided. Electricity is included in the price but please note that the farm doesn't have wifi.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site maintenance were every attentive, Garry even offered us coals for the bbq to save using our own! The pods were clean and to a high standard, can't fault them. Great surroundings, moments away from the Wye Valley Walk too 😁

  • Liked:

Peaceful location with fantastic scenery with ample walking opportunities from the pod plus lots to do within a short drive, Hereford, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye, Hay-on-Wye, Lord Hereford's Knob, Hay Bluff and lots more. There were Tourist Information leaflets in a rack in the pod.
The pod has everything you need for a very comfortable short or long stay, including heating, lighting, fridge, cooking equipment, crockery & cutlery, bedding, towels, shower, toilet, even shower gel and shampoo. I added a few luxuries like mats, atmospheric lighting, tv and radio for the long dark nights.
Any queries/questions were sorted by a short phone call to Garry who was always ready to help in any way he could, even on New Years Day.
If it had been nice enough to sit in the porch and watch the night sky and listen to the Tawny Owls then that would have rounded off my holiday nicely. I also love spotting planes & using my phone app to identify them. The site seems to be under a busy flight corridor. (Maybe I should have wrapped up and done it anyway)
I hope to be back here one day soon

It was clean and tidy. Peaceful, plenty of storage space. The water was always hot and the bathroom is a decent size. It was nice and warm. We are going to come back in the summer.
Hereford town isnt too far to go for a bite to eat or do abit of shopping.

    Disliked:

The bed wasnt too comfy but it was bearable.
Maybe add wifi as i had no signal at all. Just up the cost a little im sure people wouldnt mind.. other than that everything was fine we had a lovely relaxing weekend away

Lovely lay out, toasty pod. Lots of storage. Comfortable bed and bigger than it looks on the picture. Big bathroom with roomy shower. Well insulated and designed. Beautiful area, didn’t get to see much though as we checked in during a rain storm that lasted 2 days. Area flooded, I fell over.
Fridge makes a slight noise, not all the time, on a cycle . Soft basic ear plugs will help if you’re a light sleeper. Not a complaint just advice to fellow light sleepers.

Local attractions

Walks and bike rides? Several trails start direct from here, including the circular Wye Valley Walk route to and from Ross-on-Wye, and a hike from Ledbury over Dog Hill and through Coneygree Wood. From local town Fownhope, it's about six and three quarter miles to Hereford, via Common Hill ridge, ancient woodland and the River Wye.

The Hereford Cider Route is a top pick for a bike ride through this part of the country, passing land where apple farmers have been producing cider for centuries (tipple fans might be interested to know that Herefordshire produces over half of the UK's cider). Take the 20-mile circular route from the train station in Ledbury, passing farms such as Scrumpy House and Lyne Down, or the 19-mile run from Pembridge past Dunkertons Cider Mills and Dilwyn.

Many heritage spots are in the area for a more peaceful day out, including Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, the Brecon Mountain Railway, Hereford Cathedral and Croft Castle. You could also have a drive around the Black and White Trail, past the timbered and half-timbered houses of north Herefordshire.

Golf, fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, cycling, horse riding, pony trekking and rock climbing are all available nearby.

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (8.7 miles)
  • Goodrich Castle (8.8 miles)
  • Malvern Hills (13.6 miles)

National Trust

  • The Weir (11.2 miles)
  • Skenfrith Castle (11.9 miles)
