  • In a walkers' paradise in the Herefordshire countryside
  • Direct access to several trails including the Wye Valley Walk
  • Fully insulated pods with ensuite

Luxury insulated pods in the Herefordshire countryside – with their own cooking facilities, ensuite toilet and full-sized shower… what a base to come back to after a long day spent tramping the local paths.

Of which there are many… Caplor Farm's Herefordshire border setting in Fownhope has it firmly in a walkers' paradise, with direct access to miles of trails including the popular Wye Valley Walk, the 136 miles of scenic countryside from Chepstow in Monmouthshire to Plynlimon in Powys.

Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and plenty of other outdoor activities are all around here too, or you could treat yourself to properly easy time with gentle Herefordshire strolls or a look around the north of the county's black and white houses; the likes of Eastnor and Goodrich castles within nine miles, or the Hereford Cider Route, picking up samples along the way.

Each luxury pod is fully insulated and handsomely furnished, and has an ensuite toilet, a full-sized shower, cooking facilities, dining table and chairs, and bed linen and towels provided. Electricity is included in the price.

Fabulous stay at Caplor Farm! 07/12/2017

The booking and arrival process was easy. The key had been left in the pod on our arrival and we were free to come and go as we pleased. Despite us staying in December the pod was warm and cosy and well stocked with everything we needed. There was an array of cutlery, crockery, towels and toiletries which was a nice surprise! The kitchen area had a sink, fridge, microwave oven and a kettle. There was plenty of room in the pod for the two of us and it was surprisingly spacious. The sofa bed was a good size and very comfortable. There is a small heater in the pod which kept us nice and warm through the night, we had brought additional bedding with us but it was required! The village of Fownhope is just over a mile away but as we were there for a family get together I can’t comment on other things to do in the area. A fabulous stay!

The pods are beautiful. First class with great facilities including huge shower room with toiletries and mini kitchen with microwave and hobs and kettle.
Little extra touches inc, coffee, tea and washing up liquid !

Pods were warm in main room. So good for November !!
Lovely rural location and near to Westons Cider Farm and factory tour which is worth visiting.

    Disliked:

Only issues were noise in evening (Music) from the main house on the property. We could here this in the pod as it was loud.
Also smoke alarm had been taken off the wall and left in the blanket cupboard so was little worried about the safety aspect...

Otherwise a great place to stay

This was a lovely location in the depth of the countryside.
The luxury pod was gorgeous. Clean ... well maintained..all self sufficient.
Bed was comfy and the shower was great !!
Near to Weston's Cider Farm that does great tours and food !

    Disliked:

There was some noise disturbance from what seemed to be the main house on the sight, not sure if it was a band practise or a CD ? But it was loud a.
Also far alarm was not on the wall where it had been and was placed out of use in the blanket cupboard .. so safety wise this was a little worrying as it was so cold we had to leave heating on overnight.

We stayed in a Camping Pod for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay.
The pod was fully equipped and very cosy! I had thought that staying in October it might be chilly at night, but we didn't need the heating on much at all.
The pod was very spacious and the bed comfortable.
The farm has lots of lovely country walks on its doorstep.
All in all we had a lovely weekend!

Apart from the lady bird issue, everything else was lovely. 01/10/2017

The pod was very cosy and came with everything we needed. Great location and no disturbances whatsoever. Shower was spacious as was the sofa bed. Decent sized fridge and even a small freezer.

    Disliked:

When we got to the pod we noticed that there was several lady birds in the pod. We got rid of around 10 within the first hour. We thought we had cleared them out however after returning from the shops, we were very concerned to find more lady birds. We eventually discovered that there was a nest behind the smoke alarm with 40-50 lady birds in it (not including the ones we had previously got rid of). Even bough we didn't mind bugs, the thought of 50 flying around your head at night was a tad concerning. We did however have some bug spray and managed to get rid of them. Unfortunately this took up all of our first night and therefore our first night was wasted. I am definitely glad that we did not take our dog as this could have been very dangerous to our dog considering how lady birds can attach themselves to the inside of a dog's mouth.

From the manager...

Hello,

We are really sorry to hear about this. This has come as a surprise to us as well, we have the pods cleaned after every visit and before the next one, the lady birds must have entered in the days or nights leading up to your stay as it gets cooler outside - I definitely would have come to have a look and get this sorted for you as soon as possible if you had contacted us on the mobile number given. I'm am very sorry that this has spoilt your experience here and I hope the cleanliness of the rest of the pod was more than satisfactory? We would really like for you to visit again without any ladybird nests and hope that you can reconfirm what a wonderful site we have.

Kind regards

Islay and Sandy

Deceptively spacious and well-equipped accommodation with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Pods are furnished to very high standard. Bedding, towels, cutlery/crockery, cookware and toiletries all supplied so you don't really need to bring much with you at all.

Pods are cleverly positioned so that you can't see the other pods when you are sat inside. Makes it feel as though you are the only ones there.

Dog friendly (very important for us as our spaniel comes everywhere with us)

Checking in and out is incredibly easy and the owners emailed ahead with helpful instructions. Late checkout as standard (11:00)

Great rural location and only a short drive to Hereford, Ledbury or Ross on Wye. Handy base for exploring the Malvern Hills or Forest of Dean. Certainly intend to visit again in the future!

Local attractions

Walks and bike rides? Several trails start direct from here, including the circular Wye Valley Walk route to and from Ross-on-Wye, and a hike from Ledbury over Dog Hill and through Coneygree Wood. From local town Fownhope, it's about six and three quarter miles to Hereford, via the ridge at Common Hill; ancient woodland and the River Wye.

The Hereford Cider Route is a top pick for a bike ride through this part of the country, passing land where apple farmers have been producing cider for centuries (tipple fans might be interested to know that Herefordshire produces over half of the UK's cider). Take the 20-mile circular route from the train station in Ledbury, passing farms such as Scrumpy House and Lyne Down, or the 19-mile run from Pembridge past Dunkertons Cider Mills and Dilwyn.

Many heritage spots in the area for a more peaceful day out, including Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, the Brecon Mountain Railway, Hereford Cathedral and Croft Castle. You could also have a drive around the Black and White Trail, past the timbered and half-timbered houses of north Herefordshire.

Golf, fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, cycling, horse riding, pony trekking and rock climbing are all available nearby.

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (8.7 miles)
  • Goodrich Castle (8.8 miles)
  • Malvern Hills (13.6 miles)

  • The Weir (11.2 miles)
  • Skenfrith Castle (11.9 miles)
