Caplor Farm: 'Willow' exterior

General

  • In a walkers' paradise in the Herefordshire countryside
  • Direct access to several trails including the Wye Valley Walk
  • Fully insulated pods with ensuite

Luxury insulated pods in the Herefordshire countryside – with their own cooking facilities, ensuite toilet and full-sized shower… what a base to come back to after a long day spent tramping the local paths.

Of which there are many… Caplor Farm's Herefordshire border setting in Fownhope has it firmly in a walkers' paradise, with direct access to miles of trails including the popular Wye Valley Walk, the 136 miles of scenic countryside from Chepstow in Monmouthshire to Plynlimon in Powys.

Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and plenty of other outdoor activities are all around here too, or you could treat yourself to properly easy time with gentle Herefordshire strolls, a look around the north of the county's black and white houses, the likes of Eastnor and Goodrich castles within nine miles, or the Hereford Cider Route (picking up samples along the way, of course).

Each luxury pod is fully insulated and handsomely furnished, and has an ensuite toilet, a full-sized shower, cooking facilities, dining table and chairs, and bed linen and towels provided. Electricity is included in the price but please note that the farm doesn't have wifi.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The pod was very warm and cosy and well kitted out, kitchen equipment was basic but adequate. Very nice shower room. Lovely views and direct access to the Wye Valley walking route, very peaceful location.
    We would definitely stay again.

    Disliked:

Needed a proper kitchen bin with a lid, not just a waste paper bin. Had to put the bin in the shower room overnight so as to not have to sleep with veg peelings and fish bones in the bedroom.
A heater in the shower room wouldn’t have come amiss either.
    Otherwise everything was very good.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback. We try to offer our guests a digital detox while they're with us, hence no wifi. Depending on your provider the 4G coverage is pretty good though.

The Pod was lovely. Especially now it was so handy to have a kitchen unit and bathroom in the pod rather than shared facilities. Everyone we met was very friendly. We love animals and were particularly happy to meet all the dogs, a cat and some of the horses. The location is great, many walking routes nearby and just enough away from everything to be relaxing but close enough to towns and villages around to do a shop or explore. Fownhope is a walkable distance but we didn't look into a walking route away from the B road - with limited capacity in the pubs at the moment we decided to stay at the pod instead in the evenings. I would love to come back when the world opens up a bit more and stay a bit longer.

    Disliked:

I wouldn't call it a dislike but the bathroom was so cold. That can of course be expected in April. I doubt that is a problem in the warmer months. A very small fix I would recommend is adding a lock between the top and bottom of the front door so it can be used as one or separate. It's not an issue really, just more convenient.

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving us such a lovely review, it's great having visitors back on the site and especially when they're as lovely as Karola.
Thank you :)

We booked two pods, one for us and one for our yound adults! It was great as we took it in turns to cook and pass meals between the two pods! We are together but also apart at the same time which gave both us and them some independence. Great walking as always (this is our third visit) and the horses were super friendly (even opening my sons rucksack searching for goodies). Lovely pub nearby which I would highly recommend, The Green Man at Fownhope. Check in and out was no hastle and we were checked on whilst staying to ensure that all is ok. These pods are the best I have ever stayed in!

    nothing at all to dislike!

Pretty much everything. We were both concerned about travelling and staying somewhere new for obvious reasons (COVID -19) but as soon as we arrived, we felt safe and right at home. Check in was contactless but on our second day we were greeted by someone checking to make sure we were happy with everything, which we were. Accomodation was lovely and clean and tidy and there was enough storage for both of us humans as well as our princess of a dog, who does not travel lightly. Ability to cook inside the lodge was very much appreciated and there was enough utensils to make lovely meals, but not enough to feel overly cluttered for such a small space. True simple living.

    Disliked:

More of suggestion! There was no porch furniture included and we forgot our folding chairs. It might be nice to have some outdoor chairs on the porch included with the lodges so they can be used by every guest, even if they forget their camping chairs like we did. :)

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review, our guests feeling happy and safe is very important to us and thank you for the suggestion about chairs, it is something that we have thought about before and shall revisit.

We have just got home from a fabulous 5 day break at Caplor Glamping .
We stayed in Silver Birch pod ,the pod provided everything we could possibly need ,
just rock up with you clothes and provisions. There is a bbq and coals on your decking all ready for your evening meal or cook in the cosy pod .
Towels ,washing up liquid ,hand soap the list is endless.
The pods was so very clean cosy and comfortable, the New in Pub is only a short walk away , there is also 3 mapped walks provided in your pod.
On our fist night we could hear a band practice going on ,so we sat outside on our decking ,with a glass or two and just relaxed and enjoyed the music ,absolute magic ,why wouldn't you want to go to Caplor Glamping .

    Disliked:

    Absolutely nothing to dislike

Local attractions

Walks and bike rides? Several trails start direct from here, including the circular Wye Valley Walk route to and from Ross-on-Wye, and a hike from Ledbury over Dog Hill and through Coneygree Wood. From local town Fownhope, it's about six and three quarter miles to Hereford, via Common Hill ridge, ancient woodland and the River Wye.

The Hereford Cider Route is a top pick for a bike ride through this part of the country, passing land where apple farmers have been producing cider for centuries (tipple fans might be interested to know that Herefordshire produces over half of the UK's cider). Take the 20-mile circular route from the train station in Ledbury, passing farms such as Scrumpy House and Lyne Down, or the 19-mile run from Pembridge past Dunkertons Cider Mills and Dilwyn.

Many heritage spots are in the area for a more peaceful day out, including Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, the Brecon Mountain Railway, Hereford Cathedral and Croft Castle. You could also have a drive around the Black and White Trail, past the timbered and half-timbered houses of north Herefordshire.

Golf, fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, cycling, horse riding, pony trekking and rock climbing are all available nearby.

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (8.7 miles)
  • Goodrich Castle (8.8 miles)
  • Malvern Hills (13.6 miles)

  • The Weir (11.2 miles)
  • Skenfrith Castle (11.9 miles)
