General

  • Traditional Cotswolds country pub with real ale, food and own cider
  • Seven-acre green field, vegetable garden and site's own herd of pigs
  • A mile from gigs at Westonbirt Arboretum

Off to the Cotswolds? How about pitching up at a classic country pub with top-notch pub grub, local real ales, an excellent wine list and – how fab – its own traditional cider? And – also fab – being only a mile from gigs and shows at Westonbirt Arboretum?

This is all at Tetbury Camping at The Holford Arms, a site near Tetbury in Gloucestershire and set in a seven-acre green Cotswolds field behind the Holford Arms pub. There's heaps of space here for families and kids to rush about – and small sorts might also like to squeal hi to the pub's own herd of pigs…?

The site also has a handsome vegetable garden to peek at, a shower block, two washing-up sinks with hot water and a chemical disposal point.

Shower/toilet block was well maintained and handy having a pub ... 28/08/2018

Shower/toilet block was well maintained and handy having a pub in the vicinity.

Love the fruit trees and polytunnel etc - gives it a nice feel - although it does encourage bugs/wasps!

    Disliked:

Didn't have much of a welcome. Stopped at the pub to check where our pitch was. Was informed by someone behind the bar how to get to the site and to pretty much just find an empty pitch. Didn't see one member of staff over 3 days apart from that interaction. Compared to other sites I've been to it felt very impersonal.

The pitch was very uneven and it took about 5 attempts to put in each tent peg due to stones.

There are no lights towards or around the toilet block. A set of solar lights wouldn't go amiss and would make things a little easier.

I think the terrace area alongside the pub is a bit of a waste. We were there August bank holiday and nothing was happening there when it looks like it could be a really nice venue. A stage, pizza oven and outdoor bar were there just to tease us!
Even if the owners put a sign up saying a camp fire or something will take place at 7pm every evening for example, I think it could create a nice sociable setting.

    Not a lot

    Disliked:

Gosh where do I start? On arrival it was completely chaotic and no one was available to show us to our pitch. We spent 30 minutes in the rain backwards and forwards to the pub trying to get information from clueless staff. Eventually we found a space but it had no electricity so another 30 minutes in the rain trying to get that sorted. The pitch was tiny, overgrown with weeds and for £40 (!!!) a night was totally unacceptable. The toilets were inadequate for the number of people there and the sad excuse they provided for emptying chemical toilets was incredibly unhygienic and disgusting. A proper health hazard. The pub is pleasant enough and the food was good but the campsite and facilities are a joke, and a very expensive joke at that. Whoever is running this place is taking the mickey and needs to go and see what Is on offer at the Cotswold Farm Park for much less money per night and then ask themself some serious questions. You should focus on the pub because the campsite is an embarrassment. Avoid!!

This is such a horrible camp site that I found nothing to like about it !

    Disliked:

On arrival at the Holford arms there was no 'Welcome' as such - we were just told to go onto the camp site and find any available pitch. On arrival on our pitch we found dog excrement exactly where we would pitch our awning, dried dog food and peanuts littering the ground and more rubbish left behind by a previous occupier, which included a broken Aqua-roll and a large plastic box half full of military style dried rations. Not a good start - but from there it all went downhill. The website described the camp site as having space for 4 touring caravans, 4 motorhomes and 8 tents. From that description any reasonable person would not expect to find upwards of 60 tents over the whole weekend! To service the needs of more that 120 people only 4 toilets and showers were available. One toilet/shower has the door secured with metal bars screwed into the door frame. Queues of four to seven deep formed every morning and on one occasion I saw the father of a young teenage boy take his son to the back of his tent with a bucket and toilet paper in order for him to relive himself. How degrading for that young boy ! A chemical disposal area is provided mainly for caravan and motorhome users. (photo included)This was no more than an open sewer drain covered by a piece of wood. Incredibly it was located in the picnic area and children play area of the pub garden ! This was the most disgusting part of our stay at The Holford Arms and one which I am sure is worthy of investigation by the local authority. This above all else demonstrated an attitude of disdain for the camping clients of the pub. It was clear that the owner/manager was not at all interested in his camping customers. The pub claim to welcome dogs and charge £2 per dog per night yet provide nothing in return. No bins for dog waste, no specific place to walk a dog. This is just another example of how the owner/manager just dosn't care about his customers. My advise to him would be to focus on what he does well and get out of the camping business - for all our benefit. Apparently the pub has a good reputation for serving good meals. I can't comment on that as there is no way I would patronise a business that cares nothing about hs customers. Reading this you may think that this was an inexpensive place to camp - no, at £40 overnight is is extortionate !

The orchard and polytunnel were lovely. Site has a good location to explore the Cotswolds.

    Disliked:

Not worth the steep price you pay. The facilities are poor, toilets and showers are not cleaned daily. There is no drinking water apart from the water from the sinks. There is no light at the wash up section. The site isn't organized so people just put up their tent where ever and block car entries. For a site that costs more than double the price of other campsites I wouldn't recommend, the pictures on the website make it look a lot nicer than it actually is.

We camped for 3 nights, non electric pitch. The location was ideal and the campsite itself was pretty, nicely laid out and well maintained. Toilet and shower facilities were adequate and clean. The Holford Arms itself, provided a friendly retreat from the rain. Staff were helpful and relaxed serving some delicious food and made us feel more than welcome. We enjoyed the fact the pub was hosting campers, passers by and locals, maintaining a lovely atmosphere. Thanks for having us, would certainly visit again!
