General

  • Seven-acre field site behind an award-winning Cotswolds country pub
  • Vegetable garden, orchards, pig herd and homemade cider
  • A mile from gigs at Westonbirt Arboretum

Off to the Cotswolds? How about pitching up at a classic country pub with top-notch pub grub, local real ales, an excellent wine list and – how fab – its own traditional cider? And – also fab – being only a mile from gigs and shows at Westonbirt Arboretum?

This is all at Tetbury Camping at The Holford Arms, a site near Tetbury in Gloucestershire and set in a spacious seven-acre green Cotswolds field behind the award-winning Holford Arms pub. There's heaps of space here for families and kids to rush about – and small sorts might also like to squeal hi to the pub's own herd of pigs…?

Meals here have won plaudits and prizes for their quality and variety: the menu offers up all your classic burgers, steaks and the like alongside wood-fired pizzas, ribs from the smoker and salads from the site's own handsome veggie garden. The homemade house cider comes highly recommended, of course, but if that's not your tipple of choice there's also a fab selection of real ales, craft beers and wines to pick from.

Facilities for guests include a shower block, two washing-up sinks with hot water and a chemical disposal point.

The setting was great, the facilities were fine and the proximity to the pub (and the pub itself) is fantastic.

    Disliked:

The campsite was clearly overbooked on the first day/night we were there. Pitches were therefore too close together, the facilities didn't really stand up to the amount of people using it, and there was too much traffic coming in and out of the campsite at all times, which therefore made it feel unsafe for the young children. I do think there may have been some sort of error which meant too many bookings were taken.
The second day was much quieter and much better!

1st trip out with the tent this year to ensure all ok for volunteering weekends so good that it was fairly close to home

    Disliked:

Very busy and disorganised staff need to be a bit more keyed up as to what's available within the pub, told breakfast and dinner served between ... etc. Turn up for breakfast and dinner and told if not booked no tables available, no mention of having to book either session on arrival so travelled to tetbury to eat. Electric hook up is basically a free for all bunfight and people 'save' the best pitches for those turning up later, site administration is diabolical and 6 loos 4 with showers for 200 people caused a bit of a queue when you are 'busting'

    Disliked:

Very crowded , no pitch when we arrived although pre-booked , had to wait for others to move cars and tents as they had taken up all the free spaces. Not the owners fault just selfish people taking up more then one pitch.

Lovely site located close to Tetbury
    Good level pitches
    Clean site in general
    Good access
Pub garden is nice and communal fire pit was great for the cooler evenings

    Disliked:

Shower/ toilet facilities insufficient for the number of pitches
2 x Showers and 5 toilets for a total of about 45/50 pitches - expect a queue in the morning..
Day 2 of our stay and the showers were all backed up, full of hair/ grass and were in a pretty disgusting condition with mud all over the floors - Extractor fans would be a good investment too!
Pitches weren't clearly marked so bit of a free for all in terms of where you stuck your tent/ car
    Nearby road is quite noisy
Zero contact/ communication with staff - no-one even checked if we had paid/ who we were, saw no staff at all in 2 days

Stay here if you’re after a nice quiet rustic pitch for the weekend :)26/05/2019

Rustic area clean well kept surroundings, toilets were kept in a great condition and we never had to wait (I don’t know why the other reviewers are complaining! A little muddy water on the floor is normal and is cleaned twice a day) clean pitch site and lovely orchard surroundings. Designated fire pit on site as well as covered picnic area lit all night by fairy lights (rest of site is in the dark though). Staff at pub were friendly.

    Disliked:

a little disorganisation is charming but it can go a little too far into unhelpful. Staff at the pub were friendly in directing us to the site and told us roughly where the electrical outlets were but would have been nice to see a little map we could have taken a picture of for reference with things like toilet blocks, electrical outlets, etc? The website is out of date so getting info about site rules (e.g., are bbqs allowed) you’d have to call for. If we had any problems in the night (which we fortunately did not) but we’d have no idea who to contact as the pub is closed in the night. However - we would stay again now we have the hang of things, but I agree with other reviews a little more of a guiding hand from the management would have been reassuring :)
    FOOTNOTE
From some of these reviews I started to panic that we’d feel like we were pitching up in a beer garden. This is so not the cascade it’s lovely, and we’re usually the fussy ones!
