General

  • Traditional Cotswolds country pub with real ale, food and own cider
  • Seven-acre green field, vegetable garden and site's own herd of pigs
  • A mile from gigs at Westonbirt Arboretum

Off to the Cotswolds? How about pitching up at a classic country pub with top-notch pub grub, local real ales, an excellent wine list and – how fab – its own traditional cider? And – also fab – being only a mile from gigs and shows at Westonbirt Arboretum?

This is all at Tetbury Camping at The Holford Arms, a site near Tetbury in Gloucestershire and set in a seven-acre green Cotswolds field behind the Holford Arms pub. There's heaps of space here for families and kids to rush about – and small sorts might also like to squeal hi to the pub's own herd of pigs…?

The site also has a handsome vegetable garden to peek at, a shower block, two washing-up sinks with hot water and a chemical disposal point.

Clean site. Really modern clean toilets. Lovely country pub attached. 25/09/2017

The great pub and fantastic walk around the arboretum. Just a peaceful and well places site. The staff at the Holford Arms were brilliant and food was great. My brother stayed last summer with his sword club for a gathering and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I have checked it out I definitely agree with his good view of it.

Expensive with poor facilities (style over substance) 17/08/2017

We liked the area around the campsite, the pitches were of decent size however we were the only tent up...

    Disliked:

Freshly cut clumps of grass everywhere sticking to your shoes. Bathroom facilities were completely "style over substance". With fancy colour schemes, mirrors and (dead) flower arrangements they lacked basics such us toilet paper (found only in one cubicle). Mould was creeping up quite badly in the shower areas, warm water not in all taps, and if there was warm water the pressure was so high it was difficult to use it without splashing the water everywhere. The pub offered ok food but not as fancy as it sounded reading the menu and the smell of fried food (old oil?) was lingering inside the building (and then on your clothes). We camp a lot both in the UK and in Europe and have found the price for pitching up a small tent and using the facilities inadequate (high) to the conditions offered. Some may say that this is a farm campsite so one should expect some rustic feel to it. We have used farm campsites before and even though the decor of the bathrooms was not as "fancy" at least they were clean, pleasant to use, unlike the ones in Holford Arms I a afraid.
We joined our family for breakfast in the pub in the morning (they had it included in their steep bell tent usage price- apparently the bedding wasnt clean there either) and we found that for what we had ordered (an egg, a couple of toasts, some butter, jam and coffee each) we were overcharged again.
It is a pity as the surrounding area offers a lot and this place could be a good base for exploring, however the price doesnt match the quality of the facilities and one might be really better off booking into a hotel or even better an AirBnB room.

Good site and adequate facilities. Friendly and welcoming staff in the pub.

    Disliked:

Beers were badly off (but were replaced readily and with grace). So too apparently was at least one lager. Food limited and not that impressive, particularly given the high price of the dishes. Staff helpful, landlord conspicuous by absence, and general lack of care.

Really quiet and peaceful campsite, children can go off and play and pick raspberries without having to worry too much.
They liked looking at the pigs and playing on the hollowed out tree slide.
The pub is wonderful with a range of board games. Fills up quick so book a table if you plan to eat.

    Disliked:

The toilets were full of flies when we got there but a lady came round and cleaned and sprayed and after that was fine.
    Showers were warm/hot.
Keep the toilet doors shit and they stay perfectly clean and usable.

Really liked the relaxed atmosphere and the toilet combined with shower rooms were good. Showers were lovely and warm and plenty of hooks etc to put your things. The pub was friendly and food was excellent.

    Disliked:

It was slightly more expensive to stay when comparing with other sites but I would definitely stay there again.

Everything - easy camping on level piches, nice facilities, cracking pub with good beer and food, super-friendly people, lovely dog, quirky site...

    Disliked:

I think that the price for just pitching a two-man tent with no hook-up overnight is too much, especially when you're spending in the pub, too. Wonder if a deal could be done - pitch your tent for free if you spend £50 in the pub.

Local attractions

If you're not at The Holford Arms Camping to gig, get along to Westonbirt Arboretum anyway, as this award-winning Forestry Commission woodland has many family events, over 15,000 specimen trees and a treetop walkway.

Elsewhere in the area, the pub is a few minutes from Charles and Camilla pad Highgrove House, close to the old market towns of Tetbury and Maimesbury, and well placed to get to most Cotswolds highlights.

If you want to explore by foot or pedal, thousands of miles' worth of footpaths and bridleways are in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – see how many you can get around…

Cricket and rugby are popular pastimes in the area; to see a match of the latter, make for the Gloucester Rugby Stadium in Kingsholm where matches are regularly held.
