  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network
Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet. With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50. Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes). After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes). As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Working farm with pigs to see. Friendly owners

Disliked: The shower and toilet blocks left a lot to be desired.

From the manager: Unfortunately the weather has been horrendously wet creating a lit of mud on the floors Toilets are only as good as the last person that left them. If there was a concern every one has our number immediate action would have been taken if required. Kind regards Peter

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We arrived as 3 family’s with kids from 5 to 14. With all the bad weather on the run up to the weekend we had concerns, but on arrival we were told and helped to get to our pitch’s. We had a great stay. The kids loved the animals and the stream, the facilities were clean and acceptable, there was never a shortage of hot water, which was nice.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet farm site, easy to visit Gloucester, Stroud, Malvern hills and many more. Peter was just amazing, the conditions due to the adverse weather were aweful. Peter contacted us twice via e-mail to offer to rebook and advise us of the conditions. We decided still to go and upon arrival Peter was very attentive and went out of his way to make us feel very welcomed.

From the manager: Thanks so.much for choosing Berrends. I tried hard to make sure everyone had a choice and were aware the weather had been and was forecast to be horrid. For those who decided to come including yourselves I believe had a great time. Hope you visit again. Best wishes BERRENDS FARM

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Stayed the week unfortunately it rained the whole week so field did get very muddy and boggy. This would be a good base camp in better weather. There is toilets and a shower however these where a little dirty and had no toilet roll so don’t think anyone was keeping on top of cleaning lucky I was the only one on the site so stayed cleaned this might be different in high season. The site overall is ok definitely better if using as a base camp and going off for the day good links to motorways.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice friendly welcome when we called on arrival, choice of electric pitches, water was hot for hand washing. Had a nice walk to The Rose & Crown for chips and a drink.

Disliked: Shower/toilet block wasn’t clean. We camp a lot (hence being here in January!) so basic is absolutely fine and what we expected. The shower/toilet block seemed a bit neglected though - cobwebs, dead bugs, dirty toilet brush holder, handwash so low it wouldn’t come out. Shame, as the site is good!

From the manager: Thanks for coming to Berrends Farm. I wonder if this camper went into the shower block tenants use. There was a locked shower unit for their sole use but you has to put a pin in to unlock. It is shame the camper had not messaged me and anything could have been sorted. Lights and heaters in loo blocks attract bugs during colder months.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Farm location great to see the pigs, and calves and the big hog. Good access to surrounding areas, friendly staff and hot water was hot. good recycling area. As others have mentioned very busy this weekend but I think every campsite in the country was just as busy.

Disliked: Blind turn on to B4208 on exit. Not owners fault.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for visiting. Thanks for useful accurate fair review. As part of my hello speech we will suggest using the 2 other exit roads from the site. Yes the junction you refer to is tricky. Particularly when towing. Thanks

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean toilets Garden pitch Friendliness Quiet position

Disliked: Far too busy , tents crammed in everywhere. Very inconsiderate campers, making lots of noise and children out screaming at gone 11pm . Farm stunk of manure .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: August Bank Holiday is busiest weekend by far. Sorry you were disturbed by children. In won't be any here until October half term. Re comment re manure we weren't moving or disturbing any during the weekend. We were busy tending to our valued customers. Cleaning and sorting rubbish etc. Even if we had been muck carting my over riding comment would be please don't think of booking a break on a working farm on a busy bank holiday weekend. Might be a good idea to book an adult only site. Although we generally find the adults can be equally noisy ! Tonight (Bank Holiday Monday) there is only 6 pitches with 2 delightful children on one pitch. Sorry our working farm didn't suit you.

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic. It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise. You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).
