  • Family-owned farm site in open countryside with Forest of Dean views
  • Under 10 minutes’ drive from Newnham-on-Severn and 25 to Wye Valley
  • Half a mile from the River Severn and the Severn Way
Big skies, green Gloucestershire countryside and artisan booze: what more could one want on a hol than this trip-boosting trio? If this sounds like just the holiday ticket, seek out Severn Valley Touring Caravan and Camping Site in the village of Awre, less than a five-minute walk from a traditional cider producer and a 10-minute drive to lovely Newnham-on-Severn. The park's also in an easy position to get to, as it's a mile and a half from the A48 Gloucester to Chepstow road and 25 minutes by car from the Wye Valley. Park up, pitch up then sit – cider in hand – to take in the gorgeous views from here (the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills are visible on clear days) and watch birds soar through the skies: the site's surrounds are home to creatures like kestrels, buzzards and red kites. Early risers might get a sneak peek of hares around the grounds at dawn too, and barn owls have been spotted in neighbouring fields during dusk in this ancient area once listed in the Domesday book as a royal hunting ground… Whatever the time of day or night, visitors have access to well-designed amenities like a purpose-built toilet and shower block, as well as covered washing-up facilities and a shower room that’s accessible to people with disabilities. Off site, the Severn Way is about half a mile away for roams beside the river. Time your visit right (check timetables online) to get a glimpse of the Severn Bore phenomenon, the surfable waves that roll right through the water at certain times of the year…

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely outstanding. Each hard standing pitch and grass pitch are level and have huge amounts of space and are separated from its neighbour by mature privacy beech hedging. Each pitch also has electric hook up and individual water supply. The large toilet / shower block is maintained to exceptionally high standards by the owner, Joanne, including a separate disabled toilet/ shower room. There are even covered wash areas with hot water for doing the dishes. The site is situated in a quiet, peaceful farmland location, with adjoining fields occupied by sheep and their lambs. Severn Valley Touring is a credit to Joanne and her husband who work so hard to ensure the highest standards are maintained. This is by far the best touring site we have stayed on and we will certainly return.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: This is a great site, spacious with very good and clean toilet and shower facilities, even with fresh flowers in vases. Although our grass pitch was cancelled with less than 24hours notice due to torrential rain, Joanne was very hospitable and accommodated us in my campervan on the hard standing of an unoccupied Shepherd's Hut.

Disliked: Unfortunately the pitch was close to a generator of some kind that runs 24/7 for the toilet facilities. Nothing ear plugs couldn't fix, but it spoilt the peaceful seclusion of the site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The site was immaculate and the facilities were spotlessly clean. Lovely location - very close to the Forest of Dean and only a 10 minute stroll to the Severn Estuary. Joanne was very welcoming and the arrival instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Disliked: I could not fault the site. The only negative was that the village had nothing - no shop, pub, etc. But if you have prepared your van, it wasn't needed.
