General

  • Private getaway in a geodesic dome on a working farm
  • Secluded woodland on the edge of the Cotswolds
  • 30 minutes’ drive from Bath and Bristol

In need of a private getaway? That’s exactly what’s in store with a stay in the geodesic dome at Woodcock Farm on the edge of the Cotswolds, a 10-minute drive from Chipping Sodbury and 30 minutes from Bath and Bristol. The site may be close to civilisation but, on the southern edge of a 36-acre farm, it still feels like an escape from the world – sink into that feeling with rambling walks through the private woodlands and up to the Iron Age hill fort on site.

Beyond the site, this is paradise for walkers and cyclists. The 102-mile-long Cotswold Way National Trail passes right by Woodcock – following the Cotswold Edge, the trail continues to Bath in one direction and all the way to Chipping Campden in the other, taking in spectacular views and villages along the way.

Worked up an appetite? The dome has a full camp kitchen including gas stove, hobs and barbecue, so you’re set up for making your own meals on site, but if hols to you mean a break from cooking, grab a bite at one of the restaurants in Chipping Sodbury. The small town is also home to shops and a bakery, so stock up on supplies while you’re there.

Woodcock Farm is a haven for the environmentally conscious: the site is off-grid and keeps things green with a composting toilet and solar shower.

Beautiful isolated place with amazing views, brilliant outside kitchen made cooking very easy whilst looking across the countryside. Shower and toilets where very clean and the kids loved the hammock. Definatley worth the money and a great place to stop, we used this as a stop off on way to Devon to split the journey up. Owners where very polite and couldn't do enough for us.

Everything! I took my two young sons, ages 5 and 6 for a one night stay in the Dome. We had a lovely friendly warm welcome from Caroline, who also gave us a packet of chocolate biscuits!
The boys loved the fire pit, a short walk, (2 mins) away from the Dome. You have complete privacy. We collected sticks and made our fire to toast marshmallows.
The facilities were beautifully clean and convenient. Would 100% recommend.

The pod is much bigger than the photos let on! It had so many nice touches- Jason the owner has really thought of everything!

The seclusion of the site was brilliant and gave us the privacy we wanted as a group.

The new kitchen area on the decking was fantastic for bbqing!

Jason even provided us with some freshly baked sourdough and some chocolate. What a fab guy :)

    Disliked:

No dislikes at all - only one suggestion. Some little solar powered lights stuck in the ground between the Pod and the loo would be great in the pitch dark and you wouldn't need to use a torch.

From the manager...

We're so glad you guys had a good time - well done for braving the weather! Really look forward to your next visit....

Great suggestion about the lights - thanks

Absolutely wonderful. We were looking for a secluded break, with breath taking views, utter peace and quiet that combined the best of nature and comfort. Woodcock Farm fully delivered in everyway and more.
Wonderful location, and everything is as described.
Due to change of plans we had to bring our 4month old baby with us, which we were concerned she would be cold during the night however, the log burning stove kept the dome warm and comfortable and she very much enjoyed herself.
(During colder months may be worth bringing lots of wood as we got through a fair bit. We got a bag from owners and then on trip out brought three bags from B&Q and that saw us through two nights stay. Which was cost around £20 for the four bags in total which we felt to be quite reasonable.)
Owners are a perfect mix of helpful and friendly, while still allowing you the privacy to be fully secluded. So many beautiful memories taken from our stay here.
The dome offers breath taking views of the sunsets. So if planning just one night stay. It would be worth getting there in time to sit and watch the sunset with a g&t.

Stayed for only one night, yet wished our stay could have been prolonged. The dome and scenery didn't disappoint; spent the evening/night watching the beautiful sunset accompanied by the log burner fire! Owners were extremely helpful and kind which made the experience that much more enjoyable and allowed relaxation. Would definitely stay again and highly recommended to anyone.

Superb geodesic dome setup with outside loo, shower, barbecue washing up facilities and location for fire. Location in woods is ideal with excellent views to the west. It was a very comfortable stay with several additions to the setup such as lighting, wood burner, refrigerated esky. Would recommend to others without hesitation.

Local attractions

You can’t stay this close to Bath and not pay a visit to the stunning town. It’s known for its looks as much as anything and sightseeing tours should bring you to all the hotspots, but if you’re looking to dive head first into the town’s history, check out the exhibitions at the Roman Baths, empty your wallet at the shop-lined Pulteney Bridge or rub elbows with the Georgian glitterati at the Assembly Rooms.

The opulent history of this part of the Cotswolds isn’t just confined to Bath – pretend you’re a Jane Austen hero or heroine at the spectacular National Trust houses that dot the area. Horton Court, Dyrham Park and Newark Park are all within 25 minutes’ drive of Woodcock Farm.

Want to get some shots for the ‘Gram? Pay a visit to Castle Combe, less than 20 minutes’ drive from the site – the village almost seems lost in time and feels purpose-built for moody photos. Movie fans will recognise it from the 1960s musical Doctor Dolittle and the more recent Stardust and War Horse.

If the kids are tiring of history, bring them to Bristol Zoo or the Cotswold Water Park, both within 40 minutes’ drive of Woodcock, or get mini with a trip on the Strawberry Line Miniature Railway, 25 minutes from the site.
