  • Relaxed site with far-reaching views over the Cotswolds
  • A 10-minute drive to Tewkesbury and 20 minutes to Cheltenham
  • Heated outdoor pool with raised sun deck
A peaceful, family-friendly Gloucestershire retreat surrounded by fields and ancient apple orchards, Willow Hill is on a farm just outside the village of Apperley and 20 minutes’ drive from Gloucester. This chilled-out site is located within about half an hour’s drive of not one, not two, but three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the Cotswolds, which it overlooks, the Malvern Hills and the Wye Valley. Needless to say, there’s some splendid scenery around these parts, and some equally splendid places for a walk or bike ride. It’s about a mile through the apple orchards to the Severn Way, or two miles to ancient Odda’s Chapel. Other places to explore nearby include Tewkesbury (10 minutes’ drive), Upton on Severn and the lovely spa town of Cheltenham (both 20 minutes). If you decide to stick around the site, you can spend your time gazing out over the gorgeous hilly scenery (particularly fine at sunrise or sunset) or swimming a few laps in the heated saltwater pool, with its raised sun deck and six-person hot tub. There’s also table service poolside, so you don’t have to go far or make much of an effort for a drink or a snack; more substantial meals are also available on site from the site's very own Happerly Kitchen. Those travelling with kids are likely to be pleased to find plenty of space on site to kick a football around, and the owners can also set up badminton nets and ping-pong tables. Amenities at Willow Hill include toilets, hot showers, a laundry area, a camp kitchen, and electrical points for charging your devices. Two pubs within a five-minute drive of the site serve traditional British food.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: This campsite is golden! Loads of places to pitch, over looks a stunning view, loads of bits to do around the campsite for adults and kids, toilets were well kempt and showers were hot, bar was well stocked and the pool was such a brilliant addition and really made it feel like we were over seas! The owner / staff were very accommodating and really nice to have around and get to know. Thank you for a great stay!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Loved the facilities: the pool, the microwave and kettle, the animals, the TV room, the board games, the view, Craig!!

Disliked: There weren’t many toilet options for females, as there some of the toilets were ‘out of order’ This appeared to be a temporary issue though, and was resolved on my last day

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Took my 5 year old daughter and 13 year old step daughter here back last week. I didn’t see my 5 year old most of the time we were there, she made friends and had the best time wandering around and playing. It’s such a safe space that you can see them everywhere. So much for the kids to do, and she absolutely loved the pool when we eventually got some sun. The bar was such a nice touch, we sat and played some cards and board game with some hot chocolate one evening with the fire right behind us keeping us nice and cosy! We will certainly be back!!

Disliked: No major issue but we had planned to have food there on the second night as it says there’s a food being served there. So we didn’t bring food with us enough for the second evening. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed the whole weekend we were there so we didn’t get a chance to try the food. But hopefully next time, as I can imagine it’s delicious.

Liked: The site was great a little windy on the hill but to be expected. The swimming pool is a great touch and you can walk down the hill to the farmers arms for a nice meal. Everyone on the site was very friendly and the bar area, fire pits and TV room for the kids all works really well. All in all, I really liked it.

Disliked: There's wasn't alot of staff so food is hit or miss as to whether they are serving breakfast for example but always try to do an evening meal. The toilets are good but I don't think they were cleaned the whole weekend we were there, and a bin for the waste tissue wouldn't go a miss as a bag on the floor wasn't quite cutting it. I loved the site but it could be so much better with just a bit more cleaning, tidying around the pool area where the ping pong is as that was a bit messy but we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return

Liked: This is a fabulous location to stay. Amazing views over the hills from the camp site. The food served at the bar was delicious & a different choice on the menu each day. The bar was well stocked with local ales, spirits, wines & soft drinks. Willow Hill always had the fire pit burning, this was extremely inviting & was covered from the elements. We found that the music playing around this area was totally fitting to the time of day it was played, this is reason I would return! The pool is a great addition & the kids loved it what ever the weather.

Disliked: The toilets & shower area were not too great. Most definitely needed to be cleaner.
