  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest
Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking. Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers spacious, level pitches and a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors praise the immaculate, modern toilet and shower facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and convenient on-site shop. The location is ideal for exploring the Forest of Dean and nearby attractions. While most guests have a positive experience, some note issues with noise from larger groups, occasional Wi-Fi problems, and the access road. The play area is noted as being more suited to older children.

Liked Great location for days out in the area (Forest of Dean, cycling, Go Ape, Symonds Yat, Chepstow Castle, Goodrich Castle....) and close to nearby town (Coleford) if you fancy eating out or going for a drink.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely loved this place... Close to some fantastic walks straight from site. Brilliant little shop and cafe serving hot rolls and coffee. Pitch sizes more than adequate.
The heated toilets and showers were the best we have ever had the pleasure of using. Well done to the team for being so on the ball with the cleaning they were absolutely spotless. We spoilt ourselves and ordered a takeaway from Cinnamon in Coleford and it was one of the best we have tasted. Just wish it was closer to home 🤣
Would definitely recommend this site to others we can't wait to return.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The campsite is very well thought of and has a lot of nice features. Fire pit hire is a very nice bonus!

Separate play area for children meant that my children could run around with a football without disturbing anyone.

Dishwashing station and facilities were kept clean and were amazing.

No issues with late arrival (8.10pm).

Nearby puzzlewood is an amazing discovery for a day away from the campsite.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are really pleased your enjoyed your stay and liked our site.

The water treatment plant was installed this year. Due to the unusually dry conditions, we weren’t able to begin the planting scheme as planned. However, we’re set to start the landscaping work as soon as we close for the season, and we’re confident it will make a big difference.

We do hope to welcome you back!

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
