Nice pub
Level pitches throughout the site
The thames head inn, between cirencester and tetbury
There's plenty of greenery around the site

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

What customers say

This is a small, well-maintained campsite behind The Thames Head Inn. Pitches are level and mostly gravel, with electric hook-up. Guests praise the attached pub for its excellent food and friendly staff. The location is ideal for exploring the Cotswolds and walking to the source of the Thames. Limited on-site facilities, including a single toilet and shower, are noted.

Liked Well laid out site.
Excellent food in the pub.

Disliked Felt very unwelcome on this, our second visit.

I enquired about breakfast - not available to campers, only to people staying in the Inn. As other reviewers have suggested, even offering breakfast rolls - perhaps ordered in advance - would be a hospitable gesture.

But what made me feel uncomfortable was a sign in the foyer proclaiming that MPs of a particular Political Party are not welcome. As I am a member of that Party I felt unwelcome by association as it were and couldn't fully relax and enjoy dinner. Much as I liked the place on our first visit a few months ago, after this experience I doubt we will return.

Other points:
Shower room was grubby so we used our own facilites.
Road noise can be intrusive.

Liked Location. Pub serving excellent food.

Disliked On arrival the large pitches (which we had booked and paid for) were all taken. There now appear to be a number of ‘permanent residents’ sited on these, this has changed to feel of the site, sadly for the worse, try muddy pitches, dog poo on pitches

Electric gravel touring pitch (small)

Liked A wonderful little site, everything you could need including small well kept toilet and shower facilities. The pitches were a good size and the place was pristine. Beautiful location and the hosts were extremely friendly.
We had a beautiful evening meal in the pub and my daughter was treated to a birthday surprise which was a lovely touch.

Disliked Unfortunately there were a few unwelcome guests in some of the pitches, we witnessed them pulling into available pitches the moment someone had left. The owners were extremely open and honest about the situation and the police were dealing with it. They did not disrupt our stay in anyway. Certainly not the owners fault, just one of those things unfortunately.
