Nice pub
Level pitches throughout the site
The thames head inn, between cirencester and tetbury
There's plenty of greenery around the site

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

Electric gravel touring pitch (small)

Liked Level pitch.
Electric hook up and facilities for waste disposal (waste water and porta loo) near by.
Shower water pressure was good.
Pub food was excellent.
Staff very welcoming and helpful.
Free WiFi in pub but not on campsite so a chance to relax away from social media

Disliked Shower and toilet in same room. Would be good if in the future these could be separated so toilet is accessible when shower is in use.

Electric gravel touring pitch (small)

Liked Small and tidily maintained site - situated behind the pub.
Pitches great for couple nights stay - we used as base to go to a concert at Westonbirt arboretum.
Are at the pub one evening - great food and reasonably priced.
Friendly staff at pub.

Disliked Can be a little noisy from the road but it’s just traffic and we only stayed 2 nights - and probably heard more as windows open as was heatwave!
There is only 1 toilet/shower(a little dated) - pub toilets can be used when they are open. The floor tended to be flooded as showers door opens outwards - would benefit from mop to allow everyone to dry floor on leaving.
Neither would stop me staying again.

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked It suited us mighty fine. Perfect spot to get to concert at Westonbirt and a visit to Cirencester. Great to have the shower / toilet facility.
Lovely space
The pub was excellent for our evening meal - great choice, reasonable and a superb mixed ploughmans.
Thames path walk very pleasant

Disliked I’d just get rid of the shower room mat, provide a mop (opening the shower door makes the floor a puddle), and a spare loo roll please.

Liked Oh what a brilliant site for a stopover. Flat, well landscaped and very friendly staff. Easy to manouvre our motorhome.

We ate in the Inn that evening and can say the food (meat pie, and fish & chips) were excellent. Home cooked bliss, and a nice pint of ale too.

We will definitely be back for a longer stay so we can visit the area properly.

Disliked Toilet and shower were fine but sadly a bit run down. They just let the site down a bit.

Liked Everything!
Gorgeous little site in the heart of the Cotswolds! Beautiful surroundings! Site was small and friendly the staff are super helpful and polite. Pitch and location was perfect as we were attending the forest live which was only a 15 min drive away!
Will certainly be returning to this site again, seen some reviews complaining about the shower/toilet as there is only one but honestly it was not a problem we had showers every day and sometimes had to wait a little however the longest wait was no longer than 10 minutes. Visited the pub for food and drinks on the Saturday night and it was delicious! Thanks for having us! We highly recommend and will be returning 🥰

Disliked There was no WiFi on the site but did not affect us as we was busy each day but could become a problem if you’ve nothing planned other than staying at the site.

Local attractions

There are plenty of stately homes near The Thames Head Inn if you want to get a feel for the history of the area, with Newark Park, Sudeley Castle, Dyrham Park, Bowood House and Berkeley Castle all within 45 minutes’ drive of the site. TV addict? Visit Chavenage House, 15 minutes from Thames Head, which you may recognise as the Poldark family home of Trenwith from the eponymous BBC drama… If you’re more at home in the outdoors, explore some of the many gardens within 20 minutes of the site, rub elbows with the royals on a trip to Highgrove Gardens at the private residence of Charles and Camilla or, on a grander scale, stroll around the national arboretum at Westonbirt. Got kids trailing along? Get the best of both worlds at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Garden – meet the giraffes, lions and camels, then wander through the gardens at the Victorian manor house. If that’s not hitting the spot, take the kids to learn more about the Romans at Corinium Museum in Cirencester or give them Harry Potter vibes on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway. If all of this sounds a little too sedate for you, never fear... Have a high-octane day at the Gloucestershire Rally School or test your mettle with a trip to Head for Heights – that adrenaline will be pumping in no time.
