  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

Electric gravel touring pitch (small)

Liked: Friendly staff at the pub Picnic benches

Disliked: Noisy road right next to pitch. Not much room to play, pitches close together. Only one toilet and shower combined for 11 pitches. The shower was good but no way of drying the soaking floor.

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: The campsite is conveniently located halfway between Tetbury and Cirencester, adjoining a popular pub. Although on a busy road, the site was screened by trees and fairly quiet by late evening. Motorhome pitches were level, and the grass areas between them were well-maintained with picnic tables. Water, grey, and black waste were dropped off. Mid-day arrival and noon exit. Check-in was smooth; we dropped into the pub and were shown around to the pitch by a very friendly member of staff. The food in the pub was lovely, with lots of classic comfort food and monumentally huge portions. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. There's a public footpath next to the pub that leads through fields to the source of the teams and we watched lots of Seeker deer in the fields as the sun went down.

Disliked: The only let down was only having one combined toilet/shower for the 11 pitches, so at peak times, there was a lot of back and forth checking whether it was occupied. It was also a bit dated and, after a few people, swimming in water with only one very well-worn shower mat to mop up.

Electric gravel touring pitch (small)

Liked: Small friendly site with everything you need for a night/couple of nights stop over. Some of the negative comments we read in advance was all around the single toilet/shower. We didn’t really find a problem with it. But it looked like work was being done to add to these facilities (plumbing etc all in place). Pitches are sufficiently far from the pub itself to mean that no noise at all is heard from the pub even with numerous tables of people outside.

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: This is our second time using the pitches at the Thames Head Inn. Lovely, clean and convenient. And being next door to the pub is a bonus.

Disliked: We don’t notice it last time but this stay people using the pub who could not park in the car park used the space in the touring site to park their cars. This was only a problem because they were very noisy coming back to get them when the pub closed and our motor home was next to the entrance. If it wasn’t for this there would not have been a single dislike.

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: Nice big pitch, easy access, small and private. Lovely staff to help, clean and tidy site.

Disliked: Has only one loo and shower so that needs a bit of coordination to use, but not that bigger deal. Not really a dislike and at least it is a proper loo and not a dunny!
