  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

What customers say

A well-maintained site praised for its friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and spacious pitches. Guests enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and convenient location for exploring the Cotswolds, with good public transport links. Some noted road noise, the need for levelling blocks on pitches, and limited WiFi. The dog exercise areas were considered adequate, though some felt they could be larger.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely well spaced pitches with good planting to give privacy on the XL serviced pitch.
Very clean toilets & shower block.
Warm welcome and lots of information given on arrival about the local area.
Dogs welcomed with an enclosed exercise area, bit small but adequate, field next to the dog walk would be ideal as larger and already enclosed, just an idea..

Disliked Traffic noise from nearby main road, especially at night when widows open.
Dog waste bin by exercise field not emptied enough, was nearly full, not great in hot weather.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked I liked the way the campsite is maintained, toilets and showers were immaculately kept, the price was reasonable.

Disliked there was no sewer ground drain available, as a lot of the higher end motorhomes have a black tank and need a ground drain to empty the tank, this is why we will not be returning in the future, (shame)

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely and helpful staff.
We were given a pitch in the seasonal section which was nice and allowed us to figure it all out (1st time caravaners).
Toilets/showers were clean and cleaned regularly.

Disliked Near a main road which was very noisy.
No children’s play area (which we knew). Plenty of space to build an adventure/climbing area in top field.
Parking for car next to pitch was tight with full caravan and awning set-up.

Non-electric grass pitch (sloping)

Liked Great location, really helpful on check in with local events and transport.
Lovely green pitches, surrounded by fields.
Great facilities.

Disliked Toilet and showers were in the same block so the floors were always wet.
Other campers thought it was OK to let their kids play football at 7am on Sunday morning, not so great when your pitch is next to the football area.

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
