  • Family-friendly getaways on a peaceful Cotswolds farm
  • A mile from Bourton-on-the-Water; Cirencester 25 minutes' drive
  • Windrush Valley views; spacious communal kitchen and chillout space
Fond of wildflowers? Of course you are, and nothing says peak countryside quite like daisies and poppies popping up among wood-clad pods… That comely country scene is exactly what's in store at The Wildings Campsite, a family-friendly holiday spot on a peaceful Cotswolds farm. Set at the top of a valley a mile outside of Bourton-on-the-Water, this place has a small number of accommodation options with access to heated toilets, hot showers and a handy communal kitchen and chillout zone. A woodland garden has been planted around the units, with long grass giving plenty of shelter to visiting bugs and birds. The kids will have plenty of options here, with opportunities for whizzing around site, exploring the grounds or sliding around at the play area. If you'd rather head indoors, the cook house has ample space for food prep (provisions can be picked up a mile away in Bourton-on-the-Water), plus board games and a collection of books. Handily, this site has both a café and farm shop for drinks, snacks and tasty local produce.

Local attractions

There's a solid selection of activities to get stuck into down the hill in Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes' walk/five minutes' drive) – between the model village, the twittering creatures at Birdland, a maize maze, a model railway and the Cotswold Brewing Company's tasty ales, you shouldn't find yourself short of outings for a range of budgets and tastes. Also five minutes away is Greystone Farm Nature Reserve, an attractive spot for gentle country rambles. Wardens Way (10 minutes' drive) is where walks on a grander scale can be embarked upon, with 14 miles of waymarked trails to tread. Setting off from the village of Lower Slaughter (10 minutes) is probably your best bet – here there's also the Old Mill Museum and a historic church to admire en route. Venturing a little further away also brings rewards. Cirencester (25 minutes) is the place to be if you're one to watch horses tearing up turf at a polo match, but there's also a lido, water park, Roman history museum and arts centre to poke your nose into. Cheltenham (30 minutes), which is full of fancy architecture, is also within reach.
