The name of this spot is a nod to Stanton's industrial heritage – if the village rings a bell, it may well be because 'Stanton' crops up on many a manhole cover across the UK. Nowadays, things are peaceful around here, and the site is set between traditional red brick houses and a small village green. The Chequers Inn is over 200 years old and still in fine fettle – its selling point remains its focus on real ales and proper home-cooked food. The pub, like the site, is mightily dog-friendly, so don't hesitate to bring four-legged friends along on your trip. The pitches here are level, well-drained and conveniently located to the rear of the pub. Although it's close to the M1, off-site strolls are unlikely to involve busy roads and traffic – Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite is a few minutes' walk from footpaths that'll take you through the pleasant fields and hills that make up the local landscape. The nearest supermarket can be found in Sandiacre (five minutes' drive); Ilkeston (10 minutes) has a wider range of shops and takeaways. Please note that kids under the age of 14 aren't allowed to stay at Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite.

Liked Stayed here a number of times now and love how peaceful it is. Everywhere is very well kept, and run by a friendly couple Ian and Sue. All the facilities are clearly stated on Pitchup, so I don't understand why people moan about not having some facilities. Also when they moan about the pub, when they're only reviewing the site. Nothing to dislike from us, and we'll keep coming back. Thanks Sue and Ian for a great weekend again.

Liked Super friendly, down to earth staff. I booked last minute (on the day) and got a text letting me know which pitch we were on. Easy to find and get set up. Pub toilets are accessible over night which is great and they were very clean.
We liked how each pitch had its own grass area with a table. Located in a small village, close to the M1 but far enough away to feel like you’re in a rural location. Great little stop over.

Liked We wanted a peaceful weekend away and that's definitely what we got. Lovely village and campsite. Facilities were clean. Pub is lovely and the food was 10/10. The host was friendly, informative and helpful. Plenty of places to walk with the dogs in the surrounding areas. We will definitely be back, thank you!

Liked Fantastic find which we booked last minute as we needed some work on our van carried out locally.

The site has a great layout, with water nearby, electric hookup and a waste cleaning point - even our own little picnic table. The site is secure and just a few feet away is a wonderful little pub - lots of atmosphere and friendly locals.

We only drove through the village but it looked beautiful and the hills surrounding suggest there is some great walking.

The owner was very friendly - even delivering my wife’s sunglasses after she left them in the pub - thank you for that!

I did see a review saying WiFi was an issue. We had no issues at all and were able to stream Netflix over EE.

I’d like to come back here and get to know the area better. It’s a gem of a site and I have no hesitation in recommending.

Disliked The fact we could only stay one night as we were passing through - wish we could have stayed longer.

Liked Lovely site owners very friendly and helpful. The site is clean and very picturesque, big hard standing pitches. Included a picnic bench and brolly, also grey water drain.
The pub is great friendly staff and other users.
