Crowdecote Campsite: View from the Hill

General

  • Peaceful and sheltered adults-only site on a working farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Buxton; Bakewell 20 minutes
  • A few minutes' walk from a traditional country pub and the river Dove

Small in size but big on views – that’s the fine mix on offer at Crowdecote Campsite, an adults-only farm site in the Peak District National Park near the little village of Crowdecote. Green fields, trees and hills are all around at this quiet Derbyshire site, and local beauty spots like the river Dove, Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill are all within comfortable walking distance.

Facilities on site are low-key so as not to detract from these peaceful surrounds, but essentials like a toilet, shower, running water and chemical disposal are all provided (the shower has hot water but please note there's no hot water elsewhere). This rural spot is also home to a herd of friendly cattle and their pygmy goat pals Kenny and Dave, all of whom can be seen in fields by the site.

Dogs are welcome here, but please keep them on a lead and under control – this is a working farm, after all. Firepits are also welcome, and firewood is available to purchase on site. You'll need to keep all fires/barbecues in a steel container that's raised off the ground (please don't light fires on the ground or try to construct a firepit out of stones).

Looking for something to make that view even nicer? A friendly country pub is a short walk away and a handy local bus service to Buxton and Ashbourne stops just opposite the pub, so you won't necessarily need a car for local hill walks (and you can also head straight out to Dragon's Back or Chrome Hill on a footpath from the site). The next village over is Longor (just over a mile away), where there's a café, bar and well-liked local chip shop.

Please note

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Guests under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

There is no hot water on site except for the showers.

On arrival we received a nice friendly welcome, the site had lots of free space, was quiet and in a nice area. They allow campfires aslong as they are off the ground and the facilities were always clean and tidy. Over all a lovely site.

    Not much to be honest.
Only really improvement for us was that the toilet blocks really need hot water for taps (showers are hot!) but this was clearly advertised as being the case so no issue for us.
