Liked Really enjoyed our stay here. The facilities are simple but everything you need is there. The toilets were clean, and the wash area was clean and tidy.

It’s a simple campsite, but we really enjoyed our time here. We’d definitely come back.

Liked Lovely location with gorgeous views. Very narrow lane leading to site but we don’t pass anything whilst on it and it only goes to the site so no through traffic. Toilet block very clean. Honey box is a lovely touch and you can pay by cash and card.

Disliked Long wet grass, this Site is a farm field so grass needed for animals after camping season, hence not cut short, very wet to walk through in the mornings. Some flat pitches but also sloped so levelling ramps needed.

Liked We really loved this site. It was easy to get into Castleton from here. The toilet and washing up facilities were lovely and clean and the views were beautiful. We had a great time.

Liked It's a great spot with good views! Clean toilet facilities, good ease of use of the camp site!

Disliked No shower facilities, so if you're gonna stay for a couple days or more I'd bring some form of wash system with you

Liked This campsite is a hidden gem with a lovely view of Mam Tor. The walking path is near the entrance if you fancy a stroll up to Mam Tor. The site is far enough outside of Castleton for quietness and close enough to go for a drink and walk back.
It’s a basic site with washing facilities (plates and cutlery), drinking water and super clean toilets. Plus a cute honesty box.
Every time we’ve visited this site, everyone has been friendly and respectful not to be noisy. The field is big so you don’t feel like you’re on top of anyone. Can’t recommend it enough.

Disliked I honestly can’t think of how you can make it better. People will always bring up that there’s no showers but for a one-night stay and to keep the cost down, I have no problem with it. Nothing that a pack of wet wipes can’t fix :)

Liked Great views, well presented with honesty boxes full of treats. The toilets are clean and a in good order. Loads of space, walking distance from town and the mountain. Word for word it's exactly as described.

Liked Lovely campsite. Facilities were modern and clean, had everything I needed. The owner came round to check you in and was really friendly and helpful. Could park wherever you liked, lots of space!

20 minute walk into Castleton for great pubs and food.

The best part, the views and the sunrise. Beautiful location. Will definitely be back.

Liked Brilliant site and surroundings, a true sense of freedom thanks to not having to formally check in and the ability to pick your parking spot.

Disliked Only thing missing for us was not being able to have a safe contained fire or bbq, although this was due to the incredibly dry recent weather and probable safety guidelines being enforced in the area. Absolute perfection if it wasn’t for that.

Local attractions

With lots of historic sites to see, landscapes to hike and caverns to descend into, the first bit is deciding where to start. For days hiking, the Pennine Way starts in Edale (15 minutes’ drive) and heads out onto moors, past reservoirs and gritstone edges. A hike with a view is certain at Ladybower Reservoir (15 minutes) too. Five miles through Cave Dale (30 minutes' walk), a limestone valley, is just as splendid. Places you might want to visit on the way include Castleton village and Peveril Castle - and there are views towards Mam Tor and The Great Ridge too. Caverns on your ‘to-explore’ list? Take an underground boat trip in Speedwell Cavern (35 minutes), investigate the Blue John stone in Treak Cliff Cavern (five minutes' drive) or learn rope-making in Peak Cavern (25 minutes' walk). When it’s time to extend your learning to history in the Peak District, Peveril Castle (25 minutes) above Castleton village is one the closest ruins. For somewhere that has survived the test of time, and now makes a rather excellent picnicking location, is Chatsworth House (30 minutes' drive). The estate also has a farmyard and playground.
