  • Simple pitches at a working farm in the central Peak District
  • Bamford Edge and Hathersage open-air pool five minutes' drive
  • Farm eggs for sale on site; two pubs within a mile's walk
You’ll be pretty much right in the centre of the Peak District National Park when you pitch up at Winhill View – this site is on a working farm on the edge of the Derwent river, just across the water from the village of Bamford. A quiet site this is, with no music or group bookings allowed to keep things nice and peaceful. That makes this a particularly excellent location for walkers, who can get to the likes of the Thornhill Trail, Bamford Edge and Ladybower Reservoir with just a short drive (or by setting out on foot). Mam Tor, Castleton’s caves, Bakewell and Chatsworth are all within easy reach by car too, so you’ll have no shortage of ways to fill days around here. If you’re heading out hiking (or in fact, even if you’re not…) there’s surely no finer way to start the day than with some farm-fresh eggs, which you can buy on site to cook up for an excellent breakfast. Come evening time, you may like to get a barbecue going (there are three shops within a 10-minute drive for supplies) or head out to a local pub – there are a couple of excellent ones within a mile’s walk. Back at the farm, you’ll be staying on simple but well-kept pitches within a peaceful field surrounded by trees, with access to a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities.

What customers say

This peaceful, back-to-basics campsite in a farm field boasts stunning Peak District views and a prime location for walking and cycling. Reviewers consistently praise the friendly and welcoming owners, clean facilities (including showers and toilets), and competitive pricing. While some note the rustic nature of the facilities, newer reviews from May 2025 onwards frequently mention new or updated shower and toilet facilities, with hot water readily available. Some guests found the site challenging to locate initially.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Another lovely trip to Winhill View.
Weather was not on our side for bank holiday weekend and this had clearly impacted the number of people wishing to stay on site. Site was clean and just as we left it last year wirh beautiful views on a working farm. For those asking for a mirror we popped up a transit van window mirror which worked wonders 😀

Disliked Sitewise nothing... weather was torrential rain both nights we stayed but this is not the fault of the site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked It was a nice, quiet basic site, no frills but a lovley shower, 2x toilets and a washing up sink. All very clean and plenty of loo roll

There is a mop in the loo, but a bucket with some cleaner in would be great as it got very muddy in there and there was no way of wringing out the mud and getting the floor cleaner

Also, a mirror would be good!

Owner on hand and feom what I could see, did a late walk round

Liked Lovely, quiet campsite. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The other guests were also very helpful when we unfortunately needed to jump-start the car on the final morning!
The surrounding area is lovely, and we really enjoyed the local walks.
