What customers say
This campsite boasts a superb location for walking and exploring, with a popular on-site cafe and bar, and nearby pubs. Many guests praise the friendly and helpful staff. While the newer facilities are well-received, older toilet and shower blocks have been noted as dated, though often kept clean. Pitches can be uneven and some find them close together. Despite minor drawbacks, guests often express a desire to return.

Excellent campsite, laid back but well run, good location.
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Spacious field, easy and laid-back check-in and enquiries, fire pits available with wood re-stocking. Pizza available on some nights a bonus for hungry hikers!
The best shower/toilet block of any campsite I've stayed in.
Three spacious fields, sensible tent space allocation. Well located.
Disliked Nothing; this was a good campsite all round.

New toilet block and shower facilities…
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked New toilet block and shower facilities all very clean. Parking available close to tent. Small shop on site very useful.
Disliked Access to shared fridge/freezer facilities would have topped it off but only a small thing!

great campsite in a perfect location but needs rules for large groups
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Fantastic location, lovely new facility block
Disliked We were told that D of E groups would be placed in a separate field, but on returning to our tent we found a group of about 8 tents pitched uncomfortably close to ours (even though the rest of the field was mostly empty). So close infact, that a teacher who arrived later actually almost walked into our tent, thinking we were part of the group!
While the students were well behaved and not loud, we could still hear every word they said which is not what you really want at 6am.
I guess the point I’m making is that the owners should make sure that large groups are separate from other campers as much as possible and stipulate a minimum distance between tents at the very least.
We were going to stay for another night but this spoiled our stay to the point where we decided to move on to another campsite.

Beautiful views and really well maintained site!
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Really enjoyed my stay at Newfold. The site is really well equipped, with a café-restaurant, shop, and brand-new toilets, all kept to a high standard. The views are absolutely stunning!
Check-in was super straightforward, and I liked being able to choose my own pitch. I stayed during a heatwave, so understandably the shaded spots were already taken, but I still managed to find a decent space for myself. There are also plenty of walks straight from the site, which is a big plus if you like exploring without having to drive anywhere.
Disliked On the downside (and this is more down to luck than the site itself), I had a night with a large DoE group on same pitch, and then- the next night ended up with just three people who managed to be far noisier than those 40 kids :) Funny how that works out sometimes - definitely just my bad camping luck rather than anything the site did wrong. And Wi-fi only worked around main building and first two sites, not where my tent was (Grouse). Had no signal at all - but that wasn't a big issue

Great campsite with clean facilities to use, would definitely return
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Great facilities, lots of toilets and showers, mirrors and plugs, didn’t have to wait for anything
Easy to check in - told us about all amenities and food options including great woodfire pizza
Disliked Field was busier than expected
£15 charge for fire pit and had to ask several times for it before waiting for them to deliver it to us
Could have done with more staff in the evening to ensure quiet times are kept to as was difficult to sleep

I would go again with my partner but not as a family, need more space!
Grouse non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Great facilities: toilets, showers, general store/shop and cafe/bar on site. Very friendly staff and excellent location. All presented beautifully, which was a change from our low key type of sites we usually go for. Lovely setting with beautiful views and everything you could need on site, even WiFi which reached the field!
Disliked Expensive cafe (£48 for 2 full English and 2 egg baps!), expensive shop prices and small field (Grouse which is the larger one) so tents are close together and not much space to yourselves. Didn’t even have space to play frisbee together and you could hear everyone’s conversations around you which was a shame. People arrived with huge tents, way over the max pitch size so this didn’t help but no one seemed to be checked on site after you’d signed in with reception. People also parked on their pitch, which you’re not supposed to but they weren’t moved. Because there was charging and WiFi available, so many people were just on their phones and tablets so it spoilt the usual screen/work free holiday vibe but that didn’t impact us, just strange to see groups around a campfire on their phones. Overall, a really lovely place, very impressive but the field was a bit too small for us so the other campers around you really impact your stay in a way they wouldn’t normally.
