  • Peaceful family-friendly spot in the Peak District National Park
  • Hiking, rock climbing, potholing and caving within 30 minutes
  • A 45-minute drive from the rides and rollercoasters at Alton Towers
Stunning countryside, spectacular views and a whole lot of get-up-and-go… If that ticks everything off your getaway bucket list, make tracks for Newhaven Holiday Park, a family-friendly site in the tiny hamlet of Newhaven 20 minutes’ drive from Derbyshire's Buxton. Inside the Peak District National Park, Newhaven is a top spot for energetic types: the High Peak trail passes less than a mile from the site, and you can pick up the Tissington Trail at nearby Hartington Station (or start from Ashbourne, 20 minutes away, to do the whole thing). If you’re of an even more active persuasion – with a daredevil streak perhaps – there’s rock climbing, potholing and caving half an hour away in the High Peak area of the park. You don’t have to go clambering over hills and dales to get a good look at the Peak District though: this site is in a secluded spot, with views over the countryside and plenty of trees and shrubs for shelter. Kick back and relax among all the greenery while the kids run riot in the playground. Ready for something to munch? For anything more substantial, pull a chair up to the table at one of the many restaurants within 20 minutes of Newhaven.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Overall a very well maintained site, friendly staff and excellent location

Would recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again, I just hope they can get On top of toilet/shower block maintenance

Disliked Toilet/shower blocks weren’t cleaned regularly enough during our stay. They were only cleaned once during the 4 days we were on site and started to feel very unclean for a good few days before they were cleaned

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Extremely good for young familys. Facilities excellent and very clean.

Lots to do locally within driving distance too.

Disliked Not really the campsites fault - but something to be mindful of is the non-electric tent pitch locations are directly next to the main road (small row of trees and a small wall). This was noisy, even through the night, when we stayed.

Electric hardstanding touring caravan pitch

Liked Proximity to YNOT festival was convenient for the stay.

Disliked The tourer and camping reception was not well signposted and difficult to find.
Water for the tourer area near the toilets is a trek…..it makes no sense not to have a tap on that side when there is clearly services for the bathrooms.

The bathrooms are modern but smell absolutely vile. The showers are very grubby, the water quickly rises in the drain, the button has to be held constantly, it stays on for 3 seconds.

There were 6 handwash dispensers and every one was empty. Toilet roll was not replenished and therefore missing in a few toilets. It felt like no one can be bothered. You shouldn’t have to report basics such as handwash and toilet roll, it should be on a rota.

The outdoor sinks were also unkempt and grubby. Needed a good clean.

It has the potential to be a lovely camping and tourer site but lacks care and attention and needs a little TLC to maintain what are actually decent facilities.

Was very expensive for a pitch that was not fully serviced.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Facilities were relatively well kept.

Disliked The grass electric pitches were on a hill making it not only uncomfortable but impractical to set up a tent without everything sliding down the hill.

Signal was awful, no WiFi making it difficult to get google maps up

Toilets smelt awful, soaps were empty most of the time, toilet roll wasn’t getting filled either, showers ran for 3 seconds a time.

Tons of wasps

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked * Clean and well-maintained shower and toilet facilities: The washing facilities were consistently clean, which made a big difference to our stay.
* Hairdryer provided: It was a pleasant surprise to find hairdryers available, adding to the convenience.
* Great playground for kids: The children loved the playground, which kept them entertained and active.
* Plenty of hot water: The hot water supply for showers was consistently good and hot, which was much appreciated.

Disliked * Uneven pitches: Some of the grass pitches were quite uneven, making it a bit challenging to set up our tent/caravan comfortably.
* Pitches felt a little close together: The camping spaces felt a bit dense, and we would have preferred a bit more room between pitches for increased privacy.
*wifi need to pay

Electric hardstanding touring caravan pitch

Liked Very lovely staff in the shop especially after our frazzled arrival having found the main route through Ashbourne was shut and we’d endured a long detour and then missed the turn for the campsite!
Allocated pitch next up our friends was a real plus. Super clean showers and toilets. Lots of green spaces to enjoy and no stuffy rules. We were left to enjoy our time with friends and family . Level pitches for the caravans , great recycling area and shop.

Disliked The tent faction of our friends and family disliked the loud Lorries early on Saturday morning , less troublesome on Sunday morning but still the occasional clatter from the road. The phone number for the site wasn’t correct in my email from Pitchup which didn’t help my stress when we missed the turn to the site on arrival and I tried to contact them for a precise road name rather than a post code.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We had a great stay. The grounds are nice and mostly kept well. Clean toilet/shower block.

Disliked Food from the shop was very close to ‘best before’ date and the chocolate that I purchased was out of date and awful (didn’t realised until I had eaten some of it). The wood chipping on playground would gather and big clumps and make it difficult for my toddler to walk without falling on. There was also a number of lights flickering in the toilet block. Can hear lots of planes, trains and vehicles during the night.

Local attractions

This is Austen country, so you can barely turn around without tripping over some stately pile of bricks... If you fancy gliding around as if you own the place, adopt an air of wealth and superiority and head to Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall (with its Museum of Childhood), Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth House and The Old Manor, all within roughly half an hour’s drive of Newhaven, then chauffeur yourself over to Melbourne Hall, just under an hour away. Hols with kids are pretty easy in these parts too, as there’s absolutely oodles to distract them with within an hour of the site: make your way to Matlock for the Heights of Abraham alpine cable car and Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park (and the Crich Tramway Museum, Peak District Mining Museum and Masson Mills for some grownup sanity). Also get along to Buxton for treetop adventuring at Go Ape; underground exploration at Poole’s Cavern, and Alton Towers for some adrenaline-fuelled rides. If traipsing around on land isn’t really floating your boat, spend a day (or two) at Carsington Water, less than half an hour away, for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and fishing, or head to WaterWorld (just outside Stoke-on-Trent) for some indoor waterpark splashing around.
