  • Luxury and well-equipped handmade yurt on a Peak District farm
  • Private setting with spectacular views, a mile from the Manifold Trail
  • Woodfired hot tub exclusively for yurt guests
If you’re looking for a luxurious and eco-friendly holiday park in the Peak District, Gaia's Hideaway at Upper Hurst Farm is it – this place is home to a spacious, well-equipped and handmade Mongolian yurt with spectacular views over the Derbyshire hills. Settle down in this spot for almost instant access to hikes and bike rides; Peak District sightseeing is a cinch from here as Beresford Dale and the start of the Manifold Way are both within a mile’s walk. You could also stroll a couple of miles to the local village of Hartington or amble half a mile across fields to the nearest pub. Whether you’ll want to stay out too long with such swish accommodation to retreat to is debatable, however – the yurt is furnished with a large circular bed covered in a goose-feather and down duvet as well as feather pillows and a draped canopy. There’s decking outside, and an adjacent footpath leads to a private woodfired hot tub exclusively for yurt guests… plus fluffy dressing gowns are provided too. A mini kitchen with washing-up and cooking facilities is also on hand, and the dining and lounge areas are arranged around a Persian rug next to a central woodburning stove – although you probably won't be using that for morning meals as the accommodation price includes a breakfast hamper. Fuel up, then head out again: the yurt’s rural and elevated position has access to many footpaths and cycle routes. Bike down the Tissington and Monsal trails (four and 10 miles away, respectively) or set off for the famed market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek (all within 20 minutes’ drive). A gas barbecue comes with the yurt and there’s a compost loo too. Underfloor-heated shower and toilet facilities are 150 metres away on the adjacent caravan and camping site.

Local attractions

The Manifold Way is a mile from the park for cycling and hiking: reach it straight from the site via quiet country lanes. If you fancy touring by train instead, chug your way to the Churnet Valley Railway (20 minutes’ drive) or Peak Rail (25 minutes) and continue on through the cracking countryside. For days out that are more thrill-seeking in spirit, speed over to Alton Towers theme park (25 minutes) and brave the Oblivion and Nemesis rollercoasters. Quieter times are to be had in the area’s stately homes, including Haddon Hall (30 minutes), Chatsworth House (30 minutes) and Sudbury Hall (40 minutes), which also hosts the National Trust Museum of Childhood.
