We had a fabulous stay at Duke of York. A perfect location with amazing views, a nice small site and clean facilities.

    Disliked:

We didn’t meet the owners which is sometimes nice to connect with a location and get more detailed info on the area.

A takeaway option at the pub would be great for later arrivals and being able to purchase some staple items like fresh bread, milk and eggs.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review however I am very confused by your dislikes?

I personally check-in everyone on site (if I am occasionally unavailable our daughter books people in) however we both go through the site information sheet and give out a local walks map which we have had produced ourselves. I notice that you were part of a party of two so perhaps the other party in the booking took the information for both of you? Myself and husband are always around the pub and site if needed and can be contacted "out of hours" on the number we give out on the sheet on arrival. Perhaps you didn't use the pub during your stay as I'm sure you would have seen at least one of us.

Part of the information we go through at check-in includes the fact that we have an on site Shop -which is stocked but not always staffed - and that you can purchase items over the Bar when the pub is open. We sold eggs, sausages, bacon, bread and milk to other site users during your stay in addition to coffee, sugar, ice-creams...….

Unfortunately a take-away option for pub food is not a viable option for us - and many other campsites.

Great facilities, great view from tent field 11/06/2018

Felt secluded in the tent field. Great view. Toilets heated and no spiders. Pub on site.

    Disliked:

No loo roll in toilets, quite a few people complaining. No other issues, would go back, it was great.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and photos of your stay. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and photos are always great to see the site from customers point of view. I am sorry to hear that there was a lack of toilet roll . It would be really helpful if this happens during anyone else's future stay if someone could let a member of staff in the pub know of the problem and we will fill them back up again - we wont be cross that you have brought it to our attention! :) (Our telephone number is given to everyone during booking in and a request to leave a message if it is out of hours or we are busy in the pub.)
We do leave spare rolls/part rolls in each cubicle but unfortunately they don't stay there….We are looking into a different kind of multiple dispenser to try and alleviate the problem - thank you for bringing it to our attention. I notice you would come back again so we look forward to seeing you.

    Disliked:

Manager was a little grumpy, no freezer for freezer packs, could do with more showers, as there are only two

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and feedback. We don't advertise on PitchUp that we have a freezer for freezer packs - however we are happy to put them in our own freezer - clearly labelled - and have been doing for some customers recently. There are two showers in each of the ladies and the gents - not just two for the whole site. Sometimes this is a felt to be a problem and we are looking at reducing our site capacity to try and manage this better for everyone at busy times.

Nice flat camping field with beautiful views , good location. 05/06/2018

Nice flat camping field with beautiful views , good location.

    Disliked:

Toilet and shower block although very clean and modern just 2 toilets and 2 showers not a problem whilst there but the camping field less than half full at the time of our stay. Also soap in toilets very watered down barely any good at all. Pub on site only open all day at weekends .

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We are sorry the soap/sanitizer appears thin in the toilet/shower block - it is intended for handwash only and is a recognised brand. The information I give out when booking everyone in - both verbally and on the written sheet handed out - requests that if you see anything that requires changing or repairing then to let us know.....? This gives us an opportunity to try and put things right whist you are on site - or apologise if we cant . Our opening hours are available on our website for everyone to check before booking.

Good site with fairly good facilities but not run with any warmth! 04/06/2018

The site is in an excellent location with beautiful views. Unfortunately we did not have one of the pitches with an uninterrupted view of the landscape. The pitches were well serviced with water and electrical connections and we felt very safe on site.

    Disliked:

The welcome from the site owner was lukewarm, we were told we might not be able to get a meal at the pub. We understood that we wouldn’t get preferential treatment but there was no sense of apology. We ate at The Pack Horse inn in Crowdecote, it was lovely and welcoming! Also, others on the site were quiet and as ever friendly but the road noise was an issue.

From the manager...

Thank you for the review but sorry to hear you didn't like your view - we have booked someone in this week who requested the pitch you vacated I am sorry that you felt the welcome lukewarm - it certainly isn't intended to be like that. I try to give as much information as I can in the time when you are booking in. The reason for explaining that we couldn't guarantee to fit everyone on site in for a meal -and that it might be a good idea to book - was as a result of feedback from a previous customer who felt they would have liked to have been told that when they arrived..... It is difficult to please everyone but we do try our best.
