  • Adults-only Caravan and Motorhome Club site in the Derbyshire Dales
  • Stunning views over Derwent Valley Mills; Belper five minutes’ drive
  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
A mere five minutes’ drive from the Derbyshire village of Belper and renowned for its excellent facilities, The Firs Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is an adults-only park with views over the UNESCO-listed Derwent Valley Mills. Combine this stunning backdrop with the site’s peaceful rural atmosphere and you’ve got a winning spot from which to explore the Peak District National Park and the Derbyshire Dales. The site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to both members and non-members, with special rates available for members. The price displayed is for members; non-members will need to select the £15 per night extra or buy a membership. Costing £69 for the year, membership is well worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site in that time; it also brings other perks including access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The Firs is well set up for touring guests, with neatly maintained, serviced and level pitching areas. There’s space on the pitches for barbecues and seating, and well-maintained facilities include an accessible shower block, a laundry room and washing-up sinks. This rural sanctuary is also surprisingly easy to access, being just 20 minutes’ drive from Junction 28 of the M1. Dogs are welcome, and there’s a dedicated off-lead play area for them on site. If you enjoy a walk together, you might like to try the welcoming and characterful pub serving good food 15 minutes’ stroll away – and of course you have the whole of Derbyshire laid out below you, waiting to be explored on foot.

What customers say

This is a clean, well-maintained site with friendly staff and lovely views. Pitches are generally spacious and non-overlooked. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are consistently described as spotless. While some guests appreciated the quiet atmosphere, one review noted the site was busy and noisy. A few guests mentioned the site is a little out of the way, though pubs and bus stops are within walking distance. Some wish for pitch selection prior to arrival.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Moved pitch to 54 - it was lovely, top of the site we found the road noisy but at the bottom it was peaceful. Great shade under the trees. Toilet block and shower facilities spotless. Dog walk area great. Views across the countryside spectacular. Got e-bikes and enjoyed exploring the area. Critch Tramway museum was excellent.

Disliked Road at top part for site noisy during weekday morning.

Liked We had a lovely stay at The Firs Caravan and Motorhome Site in Belper.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a small issue when checking in, and they sorted it out straight away without any fuss, which was really appreciated.

The site itself is very tidy and well looked after, with large, spacious pitches and a wonderfully quiet, peaceful atmosphere. It was the perfect place to relax. The shower and toilet blocks are a little dated, but they were kept absolutely immaculate throughout our stay, which says a lot about how well the site is maintained.

As dog owners, we also enjoyed the little dog walking area, which was a nice bonus. We had a meal at The Spanker Inn just down the road and can highly recommend it - the food was excellent!

Overall, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. We would definitely recommend The Firs to anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly, and well-maintained caravan and motorhome site. We'll certainly be back!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked The showers and toilets were clean and tidy

Disliked We had a grass pitch that was supposedly one that was grass with awning.
It was basically the bit of grass at the end of a row not at all flat and certainly not big enough for an awning because we were on the edge every dog going past used it as their toilet.

Local attractions

Being on the edge of both the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park, this site puts you close to some of the UK's most spectacular walking landscapes. You can soon be out in limestone dales on the Pennine Bridleway, which starts at Middleton Top (20 minutes’ drive), and there are shorter riverside strolls from Belper (five minutes) in the lush Derwent Valley. One such route takes you to Derwent Valley Mills (45 minutes on foot), a World Heritage Site where you can tour mills dating from the Industrial Revolution and hire a canoe to paddle along the Derwent. You can also explore the world’s first ‘modern’ factory at Cromford Mills (15 minutes’ drive), or take a scenic train ride on the Derwent Valley Line from Matlock (10 minutes). There’s more for steam-train enthusiasts at Midland Railway - Butterley (15 minutes), but if you’ve a yen for an urban day out, lively Nottingham (45 minutes) has shopping and dining options galore – including the ancient Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, England’s oldest surviving pub.
