General

  • Pop-up Peak District site on the edge of Chatsworth Estate
  • A 10-minute drive from Bakewell and the Monsal Trail
  • Baslow's village pubs and amenities within a few minutes' walk

Ever looked at Derbyshire’s splendid Chatsworth Estate and thought you might fancy a stay in such salubrious surroundings? Well now here’s your chance to do just (well, almost) that… Chatsworth Camping at Baslow is a pop-up site that’s just on the edge of Baslow village and on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate.

All in all that makes this a mighty handy location for a Peak District holiday. The main highlight is the option of taking a lovely 40-minute stroll from your pitch to the estate for a day at the stately home, farmyard and adventure playground, but there’s plenty more nearby including Bakewell, the Monsal Trail and Haddon Hall – and of course all sorts of walks and bike rides around the lovely national park scenery.

Staying on the edge of the village is handy too, as that means a playground, a small supermarket and some good pubs just a few minutes’ walk away. Grab some bits for the grill while you’re there, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted on the pitches (as long as they’re safely raised off the ground; bricks are provided for this if needed). Although gazebos and pup tents aren’t allowed you’re welcome to bring along deckchairs and picnic furniture to get comfy on your pitch.

Facilities provided by the site include portable toilets, shower trailers, a drinking water tap and washing-up facilities. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to come along for a stay here but they’ll need to be kept on a leash (for the sake of local farm animals and nesting birds) and cleaned up after.

This site is so well looked after. The pitches are flat, so a good night's sleep was garenteed.

All the facilities were clean and easily accessible. The showers were clean and the water hot.

Fire pits and bbq's are permitted, as long as you use the block's of stone (small bricks) to put it on so as not to burn the grass.

Debbie and Karl were wonderful and so helpful, (loved Karl's accent).

The field was clean and tidy. A good place to make a base from to see the local sights visiting Chatsworth House. Bakewell. Buxton and Chesterfield.

There is so much to do and see here. Wonderful place to camp. Will definitely be coming back here again.

It was a lovely site to look at

    Disliked:

The toilets were filthy didn't use the showers didn't look very good. We were glad to take our own toilet which my husband only usually uses at night but we had to use them all the time. I tried them on numerous occasions all but one had not been flushed and was dirty no soap. Nowhere to empty our own toilet and wash it out either.
The gate had to be opened by a lock. A alsation dog chased my small dog it had broken his lead. Was told it was only a puppy but looked at least eighteen months old. my dog is at least twelve she was getting in the car when the dog bounded over and chased her round and round and she was terrified as we were. It was several minutes before the owner who was looking after the site came and fetched him back. Then he came again. We were packing up to go home wont be back unless things improve..Charged £9 per dog per day which is far to expensive and as just a field not value for money with poor facilities.

FAB location, clean site, great maintenance team onsite - showers, toilets and washing up station.

Great that there was 24 hours security too! Definitely a must for us to keep the vehicle next to our pitch.

Fantastic opportunity to go off onto trail walks, and lovely stroll to Chatsworth house.

Access to the village and all hospitality venues so easy!

Thank you too for the fire bricks - great addition!

Local attractions

Where else to start but at the Chatsworth Estate? Take the 40-minute walk from Baslow village or drive over in five minutes for a full day exploring the stunning house and grounds, tackling the adventure playground or meeting animals at the farm (and picking up bits at the farm shop).

For more smart buildings, continue on to Tudor-era Haddon Hall (20 minutes’ drive) or Bolsover Castle (half an hour). Eyam (10 minutes) isn't quite as fancy but it's a fascinating place where you can hear the story of a village that sealed itself off to stop the spread of the plague.

The natural surroundings are pretty spectacular too, of course, especially if you head to some of the top spots like Speedwell Cavern or Heights of Abraham (both 25 minutes) or Dovedale (40 minutes).

If you’d like to take in some of that scenery while on a walk or bike ride, the Monsal Trail is a good place to start – handily, the 8.5-mile traffic-free trail finishes up in Bakewell (10 minutes), a well-known hub of bakeries and pudding shops.

Must see

  • Chatsworth (1.8 miles)
  • Haddon Hall (3.7 miles)
  • Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills (9.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Winster Market House (7.2 miles)
  • Hardwick Estate: Stainsby Mill (13.9 miles)
