  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

Liked Huge size of campsite - loads of space and able to get pitches near our group. Relaxed & no fuss could park car next to tent. Toilet facilities in good condition and pizza truck nice bonus (but order early we had 2 hour wait for food!). For price wouldn’t expect anything more! Some gorgeous views.

Disliked Probably not enough toilets for size of campsite but appreciate it was a mega busy weekend due to weather.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It’s a big site with plenty of space to pitch up. The large field has some good views. The toilets and showers are well maintained and clean but if you’re in the large bottom field it’s a trek up hill. Saw a lot of people drive up which is fine however. They offer food via some food vans though it goes quick so go pre order at time of opening which is 5pm I think. The owners are friendly though I only spoke briefly when booking in. You can get fire pits if you like at an optional extra which is good for when it gets chilly later on.

Disliked Not a dislike but the water ran out in the toilets at one point but it was a busy weekend so can happen. As said make sure you go pre order food soon as the vans open, we didn’t manage to get an order in on time (our fault), Bakewell is a 10 minute drive alternatively if you want pubs/takeaways. Tricky single lane entrance, bit tight when it’s busy getting in and out.

Liked Location of the camp site was great and the site was well maintained externally. Choices of food was also great.

Disliked Woke up Saturday morning to all of the toilets blocked and not being able to shower due to the water pressure. The shower had a tiny little trickle. There is definitely an issue with water pressure here which is incredibly disappointing. Even the taps have a little dribble.
Shower blocks there isn't anywhere to sit to change after or to leave dry clothes whilst in the shower cubicle apart from 2 hooks and as you can imagine, the floor gets wet.
Those reasons above it why I unfortunately wouldn't return here.

Liked Excellent location. Food options great. Lots of space. Staff very friendly. The views are amazing

Disliked Some not following the 11pm noise low rule.
Very little water in women’s during peak times- sometimes toilets were all unable to flush and minimal water to wash hands.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The campsite is wonderful. Great expanse of open fields with a direct path to the Lathkill dale walk from the campsite.
Wonderful views across the dale.
The toilet/shower block was maintained to a very high standard. Standards of cleanliness were 5*. Plenty of taps for drinking water.
Pizza van and Greek food van on site over the weekend both were serving lovely food.
Rope swing and tyre swing went down a treat with the children.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
