  • Small touring site for CAMC members only at a Derbyshire village pub
  • Ashbourne and Alton Towers both 15 minutes' drive away
  • Wide range of drinks in the friendly pub, plus food on select days
Parking up by the pub is a fine idea for several reasons – the most important of those being that you’ll be able to have a few drinks of an evening without any worries about having to drive anywhere. That’s the particularly enticing attraction for Roston Inn Certificated Location, a Caravan and Motorhome Club members-only site in the grounds of a friendly Derbyshire pub which is open from 5pm on weekdays and from 12pm on weekends. Once you arrive, you’re likely to want to settle in for a while, either cosying up by the log burner or soaking up the fresh air from one of the outdoor tables. There’s a good range of cask ales, wines and other drinks to choose from. Food is also served on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as all day on Friday and Saturday. (And on Fridays from 6pm, make sure you don't miss the on-site barbecue night.) When you're ready to turn your attention to what's around the site, you should be happy to learn that there are heaps of excellent days out nearby, from hikes in the Peak District National Park and watersports at Carsington Water to action-packed days at Alton Towers. Ashbourne and Uttoxeter (both 15 minutes' drive) are your best bets for things like supermarkets, although you should certainly stop in at the Denstone Hall Farm Shop (five minutes) for local treats. Back at the pub, you’ll be staying at a small site where the grass touring pitches have hardstanding underneath for sturdiness, electric hookups are included and there are lovely views out over the surrounding countryside. Guests are welcome to pitch up, enjoy the view and then say hello to the owners in the pub when it opens. Toilets and washing facilities are accessible 24 hours per day, and there's a chemical disposal point for guest use as well.

Liked Plenty of space

Disliked The attitude of the landlord when I complained that my chicken wasn't cooked all the way through, turned his back and ignored me.

Liked A great little field at the side of a pub inc shower and we facilities. Nice people.

Disliked The pub had a busy night and cars spilled into the campsite, some parking next to our unit. Thought this was dangerous as no respect for campers. Traveling at speed. Luckily no kids on site. The entrance to the field requires a chain or something to stop this happening.

Liked Lots of lovely roads to walk and gorgeous scenery. Can see the stars and hear the owls and wildlife really well. Friendly staff who have just taken over and easy access to electric outlets.

Disliked Site toilets were in need of attention. No toilet roll and working toilet light. It is a very small touring site so in popular times it would be a tight squeeze

Liked Everything ! We were welcomed, told where to park & shown all facilities by the landlady who was lovely & good fun.
We had supper in the pub, delicious steaks , freshly cooked & served in the bar, our choice. The locals were all friendly, the pitch was fine, hard standing covered in grass. Pulled out at 8.00am the next morning, a perfect stop over for the local shooting ground. Would definitely return if still open next year which is doubtful as the owner will not renew the lease. It would be a big loss to the community.

Disliked Nothing !
