  • Well-equipped Derbyshire site with easy access from the A517
  • A 10-minute drive to Ashbourne and the edge of the Peak District
  • Dog-friendly site a mile from Hulland Ward's village pub and farm shop
Parking up for the Peak District to flit between limestone valleys, pretty villages and green peaks? Take your kit to Ashbourne Touring and Camping Park, a well-equipped site in a handy spot just off the A517, a mile from the village of Hulland Ward. Easy access from the main road means it’s nice and straightforward to get set up at this Derbyshire site – and that location also means you’ll be handily close to the village’s pub and farm shop (a useful source of supplies for your barbecue back at base). Bus services from the stop just outside can take you to Ashbourne's cobbled streets and weekly open-air market – or, alternatively, drive yourself over there in about 10 minutes. In fact, everything here has been designed to make life nice and easy for guests, with well-kept, ample toilet and shower facilities, a chemical disposal area, a washing-up area and a launderette provided. And if you can't bear the thought of leaving a faithful furry companion behind, good news – dogs are welcome to join you on site as long as they're well-behaved. The wifi service provided is also likely to come in handy, given that you'll probably want to plan lots of days out around the area. The edge of the Peak District National Park is about 10 minutes' drive away, as is the start of the traffic-free Tissington Trail, so you'll be in a good position for getting out to explore the lovely landscapes. And there are plenty of other attractions around too, including Alton Towers and the grand Chatsworth Estate.

What customers say

This is a very clean, well-maintained and friendly site with spacious, level pitches. Visitors praise the helpful staff, excellent facilities including spotless toilets and showers, and the lovely dog walking area. It's ideally located for exploring the Peak District, with proximity to attractions like Carsington Water and Dovedale. While some found the Wi-Fi signal weak and road noise occasionally noticeable, the overall experience is highly positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Good location from Ashbourne, toilets were clean. A number of fresh water points and the grass field we were in was spacious.

Disliked Dog Walk, while it was nice to have a couple of fields to walk the dog through, we prefer it when there is a secure dog area so they can have some time off lead.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We enjoyed staying here , the size pitches are very good . the toilets and showers are nice and clean ( even though we didn't use them . its peaceful and relaxing . Karen is a lovely person who will help you if you need it , very friendly staff.

Disliked wii fi wasn't good . the road outside the campsite is dangerous ( its not nice for walking or out on your bikes ) and there's nothing to do for children ( so they need to bring some out door toys to play with )

Local attractions

Bridging the gap between Ashbourne and Parsley Hay, the Tissington Trail (10 minutes’ drive) beckons with peaceful, traffic-free pedals and a detour to the tea rooms in gorgeous Tissington. Those who are looking to spend the majority of their time exploring on foot can take on the trail without a bicycle or head onwards towards the Dovedale stepping stones (20 minutes), Harboro Rocks (15 minutes) or stunning Thor’s Cave (half an hour). Putting aside a morning to stroll around Chatsworth estate (35 minutes) is also a fine decision, given that this stately home is a proper Peak District poster child. You may have also heard of Carsington Water (10 minutes), not quite in the national park but just outside, for scenic hours of watersports or keeping watch for birds like kingfishers and buzzards. Touring with the kids? They will surely appreciate a trip to Alton Towers (25 minutes) or the Peak Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Take 'em on a vintage tram ride at Crich Tramway Village (25 minutes) while you're at it, ending at the period sweet shop or pub.
