General

  • Laidback & peaceful site spread over 13 acres in the Chiltern Hills
  • A ten-minute drive from Beaconsfield; half an hour from Thorpe Park
  • Handy access to motorways and trains for London days out

Hedsor Field Camping is in one of those enviable spots that’s surrounded by gorgeous countryside and yet handily set for easy access from the motorway.

Beaconsfield and the M40 are both five minutes away, and both the M4 and M25 about 15 minutes away, but the outlook is firmly rural at this Buckinghamshire site on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, just between two well-established woodlands. Being in that particular spot also means a stunning view down the valley of the River Wye, a protected chalk stream.

There’s plenty of space around on site from which to take all this in – 13 acres, in fact, with a dedicated open space and a wildflower strip that’s quite a haven for butterflies and birds. And it’s a laidback kind of place too, welcoming kids and dogs and permitting the lighting of barbecues and firepits for sociable cosy evenings. There are also five pubs within walking distance, the closest being a 10-minute stroll away.

Facilities on site include a toilet, an accessible toilet with baby change station, four showers and a washing-up area. A footpath from the site leads to a big park with a play area for any kids that need somewhere to let off steam; it's also possible to walk to a play farm and golf course too.

There's plenty to keep you occupied in this part of the world (farm parks, National Trust properties and walks, for example) but if you fancy a proper change of scenery this is a nifty location for day trips to London (from Beaconsfield station).

We welcome small peaceful groups and families to the site. I am afraid we cannot take large group bookings.

Liked very much the space, the views, the organisers, the location, the pub in the next village, the log burners, the excellent showers

    Disliked:

The 4 loos did not seem to be cleaned often enough so they were not very nice to use as they were dirty. The bins were overflowing with used paper towels.

From the manager...

Hi Helen,

Sorry to hear that you found the loos to be unsatisfactory. We regularly check the facilities, throughout the day and have 3 deep cleans: one at 5.30am and again at lunch and in the evening.
Most of our reviews have actually noted the high standards of cleanliness. We had erected notices to encourage those staying with us to let us know if they found the facilities to be in need of some attention.
Sadly, after we clean - and before our next regular check, they can (at times) get a little messy. We are sorry that you found this to be the case.

I am pleased this didn't put you off - and we hope to see you again next year.

A little too noisy first night and lack of shade as it was extremely hot the weekend we stayed.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are sorry you found the first night too noisy. We were regularly patrolling and asking people to quieten down, where appropriate.
The shade situation is exceptionally difficult to tackle, but we will look into options for next year, if we pop up again.

Had a great stay at Hedsor Field Camping. The gentleman who greeted us on site was very helpful - as was the young man working for him.
The site was big enough to feel like we had privacy
The rules allowed for a BBQ and a fire pit (which we booked when booking the site) and even had fire wood to sell on site - bargain of a huge mixed bag for £6.
We would usually camp in the woods somewhere but as we had small children with us, decided to go for an actual camp site. We felt safe - the gentleman on site also advised there is always someone on site, even though the gates were locked at 11pm.
If you like a good camp site with beautiful views, i would highly recommend Hedsor!
The ground was nice and flat!
The portaloos were really clean and clearly looked after
P.s it absolutely poured down the evening we decided to stay and were happy to see the ground was not flooded when we woke up in the morning.

    Disliked:

Nothing really - it's not a "wilderness" kind of camping in that it's a big open field but that's what we were looking for. If you're looking for something completely private, it may not be for you but this is no negative on the site, just personal preference.

From the manager...

Hi Serena. Thanks for spending time writing us a review. We agree with your comments - and its good to flag it up for others who may book with us. Thank you. We were grateful for the gravel drainage in the field! :)
Hopefully see you next year.

This was our first camping experience and it was incredible! The views over the chalk valley was very pretty. Having sanitary facilities that were cleaned regularly meant that we were reassured of our safety during these unprecedented times. The ground was flat allowing for us to pitch the tent with ease. We sat out under the night sky with our fire pit (that we hired) roasting marshmallows & sipping tea. It was magical. It was lovely to walk around the camp site and speak to others who shared many wonderful stories of their camping experiences (or rather disastrous ones). This made us so thankful of the facilities that were in place be it for drinking water taps, washing dishes or powerful hot showers. The next day Phil guided us to local walks. We walked through the woods, via the Chitern path and into Wooburn. The kids loved it! Quintessential cottages were a delightful site on the other side. We grabbed a coffee at a local independent coffee shop which again was very friendly and accommodating for our varying dietary likes/intolerances. Overall it was just peaceful. A pause in our hectic lives to connect away from devices (though the kids had a movie night!). Phil has set the bar quite high for our future camping trips. Nothing was too much for him, they were on site day & night. A memorable 1st trip & we look forward to returning again and exploring the area further & hiking hopefully next year.

Nice spacious field with very nice scenery, weather was quite hot so we went into the wood which were literally the other side of the fence. Facilities were nice and clean. Had a couple of rowdy kids going into areas that they shouldn’t have and being a bit too boisterous but the owner had a word with their parents and quickly sorted that out. There is always a staff member about to help out and you can’t go wrong with a fire pit for £5 for the duration of the stay. Philip the owner is a nice chap who will go out of his way to help and is genuinely interested in how your day is going.

    Disliked:

Grounds a bit rocky underneath so bring Strong pegs or at least plenty of normal ones.
