  • Family-friendly farm site in the Chiltern Hills National Landscape
  • LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort 40 minutes’ drive; Thorpe Park 45 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches; animal encounters available; barbecues allowed
Fancy taking a breather from daily life and heading to the Buckinghamshire countryside? Make a beeline for the family-owned Penn Meadow Farm, set in 145 acres of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape, where you can set up camp on a dog-friendly, tree-sheltered meadow with spectacular views over fields and forested valleys. Happy to hang out at the farm? The kids will probably love the chance to meet the resident pigs, sheep (with their lambs in spring) and alpacas, as well as Bobby the border collie. There’s plenty to do in the local area, too, with lots of public footpaths going straight from the pitches, red kites to watch soaring overhead and several golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive. If you feel like a foray into London, Marble Arch is just an hour’s drive away, but when your offspring find out that LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort is just 40 minutes in the car, chances are you’ll have no peace until you take them there. Back on site after your daytime expeditions, you’re welcome to have a small campfire in the evening, and the farm owners can supply wood. Alternatively, the site is five minutes’ stroll from Britain’s oldest free house, the half-timbered Royal Standard of England, where you can sample local ales and enjoy delicious roast dinners.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: I don’t usually write reviews, but I had to do this one as it was my first time camping not my partners - so of course it was my choice where we stay. I could not have chosen a better place for my decision to try camping to be better (Will be doing it again)

There a pub near by which is a lovely walk to embrace the nature and the animals. There a fire pits to have an open fire which we have used our own fire pit as didn’t take it for nothing hahaha!

The farm has all the facilities you need make your stay pleasurable and defo unforgettable. The owner even popped and said hello to us which was a beautiful touch to our stay. Owner came back the following morning to update my partner on the TV show that he was watching which was a cherry on top. You feel welcomed and a part of the family not a recluse. In the morning the farmers dogs came to say hello to us which was great had a little run around with them and then packed the bags and went home. Would be definitely returning there again. Highly recommend it.

Disliked: There is absolutely nothing i would’ve changed at all

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Fantastic location which is peaceful, surrounded by nature with a wonderful old pub nearby.
The toilets and shower were clean and tidy. I liked the attention to detail and the water was nice and hot.
A friendly dog found me as I was pitching up and dropped his tennis ball at my feet. I may have made a four legged friend. 😆

I would recommend this site and I will definitely be coming back each week as I find it so much better than staying in a soulless chain hotel.

From the manager: Hi Katie,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience I love the photos! The pigs are my favourite as they get so excited to say hello. We are looking to plant more bluebells this September too and your more than welcome to come up and help if you like or come along again next year and see even more blue in the woods.

The Bathrooms are something the owner loves to be creative with, you can even find an episode of Small Spaces where he is featured for building a cool space in a trailer.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This is mine and my families go to camping spot, been here 8+ times. The owners are lovely, fields are well kept. Occasionally you will have the owners come and introduce themselves then you are left in peace to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Disliked: More toilets.

From the manager: Hi Shauna,
Thank you so much and we are so pleased you continue to enjoy visiting us we are so blessed to have such amazing visitors that make the hard work worth while.
We are looking into having more toilets, it does take a long time as we are in an area of outstanding beauty there is a lot of red tape to negotiate.
But you never know we may be there by your next visit.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A lot of room, luckily there wasn’t many other people so plenty of space to set up. Lots of good trails, geocaching and the animals on the farm are really cute. Lovely pub really close by. Also town is close by for emergency shop runs. Toilets are really nice and clean (by one of the best I’ve seen). Will definitely be coming back!!

Disliked: I’d suggest putting something on the toilet doors to let others know it’s being occupied. Only way to know is if the doors are open which sometimes they weren’t. Apart from that, very happy!

From the manager: HI Ricardo, Thank you so much for sharing it is very much appreciated! I love that photo of the Alpaca! I will tell the on site team about the toilets as they work really hard and having positive feedback makes it all worth while! Really interesting feedback on the toilets indicators and not one we have had so we will defiantly give it some thought. Thank you

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We loved the amount of space. The kids got to roam around independently and were completely safe. We also loved all the animals, especially the dogs!! The owners were very available and extremely helpful. Also, only being a short walk from The Royal Standard of England was a nice surprise.

Disliked: The showers were a bit unreliable (I had a cold shower after the first night)
Also, 3 toilets - while very nice - aren’t enough for so many potential campers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking time to leave us a review and feedback. It helps our growth considerably.

We are so blessed to have amazing animals who mostly like to say hello. We agree with you about the Royal Standard backing onto the farm is such a blessing and a fascinating place to visit.

We are so sorry you didn't get a hot shower, we have been talking about how we can best ensure that everyone has a fair amount of time in the shower but are yet to find the best answer for this.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The place is lovely. Frankie the owner is a very nice chap always happy to help with any questions you might have. The best part of the experience was all the animals that you get to see around the farm. Horses, sheep, goats, pigs and there’s also the dogs of the farm which are very friendly, my puppy had a blast with them. The facilites in the campsite are amazing. You get flushable toilets which my wife always enjoys and the showers were very nice. Everything very clean and spot on. Can’t really fault the place really would 100% recommend and will definitely visit again.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review! It makes such a difference to the team who work so hard and put their hearts into giving everyone a camping experience to remember!
Maybe in your next visit the alpaca may have come up closer to the camping, they are currently at the other side of the farm as they have a very little baby with them.
We look forward to seeing you again very soon!

Local attractions

Surrounded by ancient woodland, National Trust - Hughenden (20 minutes’ drive) was the country home of Victorian prime minister Benjamin Disraeli and an RAF nerve centre during World War II. Check out the art collection and library inside the red-brick mansion, then take a stroll through the manicured gardens, with their pristinely maintained paths. See how our ancestors (both remote and recent) lived at Chiltern Open Air Museum (20 minutes), where reconstructed historic buildings range from an Iron Age roundhouse with mud walls and a thatched roof, to a 16th-century oak-framed barn, as well as Victorian structures and wartime prefabricated huts. Children will think they’ve hit the jackpot when they realise it’s not just LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort that’s within fairly easy reach from the site, but also Thorpe Park Resort (45 minutes), with its thrill rides (such as Nemesis Inferno, with an inverted vertical loop) and Chessington World of Adventures (one hour), which includes a zoo.
