  • Well-maintained farm site in a green setting in the Chiltern Hills
  • Between London and the Cotswolds, a mile from Stokenchurch village
  • Within half an hour's drive of Henley-on-Thames and Oxford
Drive deep into the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for a stay at this well-maintained site on a farm setting, surrounded by scenic walks in the green countryside and to local villages. As well as having chances to roam all around, Old House Farm Rural Camping Retreat is a peaceful place with thoughtfully designed facilities. Being within about half an hour’s drive of Henley-on-Thames and Oxford for riverside rambling and 45 minutes from the rides of Legoland and Thorpe Park, it’s also an excellent Buckinghamshire base with easy access to attractions and activities for all ages and tastes. Those looking for a wildlife-based break will be pleased to know there are plenty of chances for nature spotting in this green belt area between London and the Cotswolds, such as at local village Stokenchurch (just over a mile away), which is known for its red kite population after these birds were reintroduced to the area. If strolling around stately homes is more to your tastes, the farm is 15 minutes’ drive from High Wycombe and 10 minutes to Hughenden Manor, the ex-residence of 19th-century prime minister Benjamin Disraeli. Wycombe Museum is another old house with manicured gardens, and West Wycombe Park, yet another fancy manor, is just outside town. If pretending to be a member of the aristocracy for the afternoon gets you hungry, head back to site for a barbecue followed by a warming session around the campfire. For eating out and snacks, restaurants, a coffee shop and takeaways are in Stokenchurch and the nearest pub serving food is 20 minutes’ walk from the farm.

Local attractions

Adventures in the Chiltern Hills really are varied: the area has everything from the manmade Hell Fire Caves network for underground rambles to flying lessons at Wycombe Air Park (both 10 minutes’ drive). More of a train fan than aviation aficionado? Bekonscot Model Village & Railway is 25 minutes’ drive, and about the same distance is the animal petting and feeding – plus go-karting and crazy golf – at Odds Farm Park. A few other places to suit the kids include the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre (30 minutes) in Great Missenden, paying tribute to the author who lived in the village for more than three decades. And for a guaranteed way to keep the younger travellers busy? There's always the rides and shows at Legoland Windsor (35 minutes) and Thorpe Park Resort (45 minutes)...
