General

  • Family-friendly Berkshire site alongside a freshwater lake
  • A 10-minute drive from Reading town centre and its museums
  • A short walk from an aqua park with a beach, café and watersports

At Caversham Lakes, you might find yourself wild swimming the morning away or rustling up a barbecue after a lively afternoon of paddleboarding. That’s because this family-friendly site is alongside a freshwater lake in Berkshire and it’s within walking distance of a family-friendly beach, aqua park and open-water swimming and paddleboarding activities.

Wet and wild your stay might just be – handily enough, the site has portable toilets and cold-water showers so that you have somewhere to rinse off after the water activities. And if you’re hungry, just plant yourself down at the lake’s beach bar and café, which serves food and drinks throughout the day.

If you’d rather be the chef yourself, barbecues are permitted on site, as long as they’re raised off the ground. There’s a no-noise policy past 10pm so that everyone can have a peaceful night’s sleep in this rural setting.

Be sure to book any activities in advance – the operators are separate from the site. While you’re hatching your plan of action, it’s also good to know that Reading town centre is only 10 minutes’ drive away too (so, you’ll have easy access to museums, tasty food venues and the likes).

Caversham Lakes is a spacious, back to basics site with pitches alongside the lake and lots of space for everyone to spread out and have a wild time.

    Disliked:

That we had to pay separately for each and every activity which became tedious with regards to multiple wrist bands.
We should have been given access to the family beach free as part of the camping price at least.

    Disliked:

Three portaloos and two cold showers with no privacy to the person showering next to you, nobody to greet you on arrival had to go looking for the main reception, not allowed cars by your pitch. Nobody to say where to pitch up the site was very full so we were near enough on top of each other. It would’ve been okay if it was cheaper but for £30 per night was disgusting really.

Friendly staff - working hard to turn it around04/09/2022

After seeing the bad reviews we were worried but the staff have taken them on board and made changes. There was no rubbish, friendly staff, very helpful as we went home in the middle of the night with a sick child and left everything! The staff let us collect our tent later than check out and looked after our belongs.

It’s a basic campsite but good value for money, didn’t get to enjoy the lake but will do next time.

    Disliked:

Booked over reading festival weekend and had people from the festival staying there who woke the kids up - mostly our fault for not thinking.

    Showers don’t have much privacy

Excellent site with level pitches and fairly clean facilities.04/09/2022

I really liked how close the car park was to the field itself which made putting the tents up extremely easy. In addition, you could even drive into the field itself. The field itself was spacious and it could fit many tents and caravans inside as well as still having comfortable spaces in-between each camper. On the first night, our group arrived late and it had already become dark but we were met with very selfless campers who offered their torch to us while we set our tent up. The toilets were topped with toilet roll early every morning and there was access to drinking water on site which was a huge help.

    Disliked:

The only problem was the geese in the morning but we were already aware of this.
