Spacious site with good facilities, but not enough to return.

Aug 2026

Liked The arrival and check-in process was very easy, with helpful staff directing us to our pitch. The pitch itself was incredibly large, as were most of the pitches across the site, which made for a very spacious and comfortable stay. The main shower block was large and generally good, although the closer toilet and shower facilities were closed and looked as though they had been out of use for some time. There was a small shop at reception, and food vans serving street food and pizzas were available on two of the three nights we stayed, which was a nice addition. The play park was also good, although it was really only suitable for younger children. There was, however, plenty of open space for playing games and enjoying the outdoors. The location was just outside the town, although we didn’t explore the immediate local area very much, as we spent most of our time visiting Matlock and exploring the surrounding Dales. Overall, it was a good campsite with plenty of space and some useful facilities. However, we didn’t feel there was quite enough on-site or in the immediate area to make us want to return for another stay.

Disliked One of the biggest frustrations was that I hadn’t realised when booking that there were no on-site freezer facilities for refreezing ice blocks. For such a large campsite, with so many people camping in tents, I would have expected this to be available. There were no issues with the electrical supply, and a fridge could easily be powered if you brought your own, but having access to a freezer would be a really useful facility for campers. The majority of the site is also on a slope. This wasn’t a major issue for us, but it’s something to be aware of when choosing a pitch, as some campers may prefer flatter ground. It could also get a little noisy around the avenues, with some parents not paying much attention to the 10pm quiet-time rule. As someone with children myself, I appreciate that kids will be kids, and this isn’t really the campsite’s fault as similar things can happen anywhere. However, some families did seem to take the rules a little too casually. The toilets were also often left in a poor state. I suspect this was largely due to the number of children using the facilities during the school holidays rather than a lack of cleaning, but it was still noticeable. Finally, I found that if I showered after around 8am, the water was often only lukewarm. During a heatwave this wasn’t particularly unpleasant, but it’s something worth being aware of, especially if you’re expecting a hot shower after an early start or a day out. Overall, these were relatively minor issues, but they are worth considering when deciding whether the site is right for you.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, we welcome all feedback. We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay but sad to see you will not return in the future. We are sorry to hear that you experienced noise at night, we are quite strict on quiet time and we do go out and about at night to enforce the quiet time. The showers are powered by gas so we are not sure why they would be lukewarm in the mornings, we will get these checked to find the possible cause. Thank you for your feedback we will look at some

A peaceful campsite with great facilities and thoughtful hosts.

May 2026

Liked We loved the location of this site and our electric pitch, which was a real sun trap during the heatwave and offered plenty of space to relax. The setting felt peaceful throughout our stay, with a quiet, well-kept site and a genuinely friendly atmosphere. The campsite is ideally located near Clitheroe, which is just a short drive away for shops, pubs, and restaurants. It’s also within easy driving distance of some stunning places in the Yorkshire Dales, including Malham Cove and other nearby walking spots, making it a brilliant base for exploring the wider area. The owners really added to the experience—coming round in the early evenings to check everything was okay and offering fire pits and logs, which created a lovely, relaxed camping atmosphere. The surprise visits with ice creams were a brilliant touch and very much appreciated. The facilities were excellent too, with clean shower blocks that were never overly busy. Despite there being a number of guests on site, it still felt small, calm, and uncrowded. The only thing missing for us was a children’s play area, which is the only reason we wouldn’t quite give it a full 10 stars. It’s not a negative against the site at all, just the one feature that would have made it absolutely perfect for families. Overall, it’s a fantastic campsite for anyone looking for a quiet, friendly stay with great access to both Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales.

Disliked I only had 3 nights and couldn’t stay longer
