Umberleigh, Devon, England
Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Nothing
Disliked The site whilst I was aware it would be rustic, I was not prepared for:
the large pot holes to get on to the field
the slope is understated
the EHUs are covered by a 5 litre plastic can
the wind tunnel making it possible to pitch an air tent
safety - as a lone female camper I did not feel safe being the only person on site
the gate to the field had nothing to hold it in place

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch
Liked Everything.
The site as a whole is well excellently maintained. Showers, toilets and kitchen facilities are clean. The shower has decent water pressure and is not governed by a timer.
Pitches are large with plenty of space between them.
Norma and Casey 🐾 are perfect hosts, and often check-in to make sure all is OK. Casey particularly likes a stroke once in a while.
Norma makes a variety of pasties (wich can be ordered) and hot cafe style drinks are available (menu at site reception)
This is our 3rd break, with a 4th already booked and extended for 2025.
If you like to take longs walks, Cardinham Woods is within a 10 minute walk, this is the site for you. There is also a fabulous little cafe in the woods too.
If you are looking to explore Cornwall, this is a great site to be based on. The A30 is a short drive from the site and connects you with Newquay (30 minute drive) Truro (25m) and Lands End (1h20m) to name a few.
We love it, our dogs love it. I hope you do too!

Electric optional grass tent pitch
Liked From the moment we arrived to the last minute extra night we were able to have, Norma ensured we, all pitches, were happy and content. The facilities, whilst small in number are spotless, and well maintained. The pitches themselves, are spacious and well maintained. But I think for me, the overall relaxed atmosphere and stunning views make this a brilliant site to stay at.
Disliked Having too leave, but we will be back!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Laundry facilities were adequate, though messages left for residents had potential too make you feel less inclined too use them.
Cleanliness of the showers and toilet facilities were excellent, however some people need to learn how too flush toilets and not leave mounds of toilet paper around (this is not the fault of the owners , but other patrons).
Something that Perran Quay have that we haven't seen in other sites, is a marked out pitch, this is an excellent idea and does give you boundaries - if any of these became an enclosed pitch I would consider bringing 1 of my dogs.
Full praise to Ashleigh and Natalie for their hospitatily.
Location is very good base for whole of Cornwall. We managed Boscastle within 45 minutes.
Being nature enthusiasts the assortment of birds, the occasional rabbit and the braying of a donkey (neighbouring farm?!) did help with the whole camping experience, also helped to muffle the sound of distant traffic.
The evenings and nights were very peaceful, and well lit for the statutory toilet run at 3am.
Something that would be handy is too have a post box on site, but that's not an issue.
As we went in a quieter period I don't know about the provisions available in the shop, however I don't recall seeing fresh milk, bread, butter etc. That said there are 2 supermarkets within a 10 minute drive.
The on-site cafe wasn't open during our stay, but having done the nosey-neighbour, it does look great inside and very modern.
We are coming back in July, with a bigger tent and no car, I hope the cafe will be open for then.
I would suggest not too overlook this site when planning to come to Cornwall, the Owners took over late 2014, and from what I have learned have already improved the site100%, with further improvements in the pipeline.
If you want top of the range, over-priced and crowded this is not for you.
Disliked Having to listen to an idiot rev his jet ski on a daily basis - the fumes alone were as obnoxious as he was.
The Braefel Inn severely over-priced and quality very poor - catered desserts were soggy and very small portions for the price. Chips were dry and burnt on the edges.
The showers are useless, 20 sec push button and take a good 2 minutes to warm up, but as said previously they are clean.
I got the impression that there are residents on site, 1 of which I felt became a little too familiar with us.
Whilst there are signs up in and around the pool, again other patrons let them down, by 'bombing' in the pool. Safety around the pool is ok, although with the wind an umbrella not made secure in the table-base, blew out and narrowly missed my head.
Enrance/Exit to site can be difficult as you could be crossing a very busy road either by car or foot (the main road leading to Perranporth), the bus stop is opposite this entrance, but very little space on the verge to wait for the bus.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback about your stay with us, all reviews are very important to us as this helps us to understand the improvements that we can be making on our holiday park. We hope that if you came back to visit us, you would be able to notice a few changes that we have made. We have taken a lot of the signs down in the laundry area and have made the different instructions for use on one main sheet for our holiday makers, making this a little more pleasing to the eye. We do stock a small choice of fresh food in our shop but if there is anything else you think would be a good idea to stock, every idea could help us. We are so sorry for the bad experience that you had in the Braefel Inn, and we hope that if you did make another visit to our restaurant that we would be able to prepare some more food for you as we continue to adapt the menu over time. We will be adapting the shower facilities over the next couple of years, as we do understand that these are slightly dated. Also, all of the umbrellas have been removed from the pool area, as on a windy day it has been noted that these are very temperamental. We hope that during your next visit, you will be able to notice some of the changes that we have made around the holiday park, and this will be an ongoing family project for us. Without your feedback we would not be able to make all of the correct improvements, so thank you very much once again!
