Electric grass pitch

  • Peaceful, scenic North Wales site on the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool table on site; 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the stunning North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, these pitches with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and kitted out with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

What customers say

Highly recommended! Praised for spotless cleanliness, spacious sites, and helpful staff. Modern restrooms are a highlight. Great base for Snowdonia. Most find it peaceful, though some note occasional road noise & few nearby shops. Managers respond to feedback.

Liked Beautiful campsite with spectacular views!
Spacious pitches which are fully serviced with EHU and water tap
We were on pitches where you can park next to your tent
Plenty of CCTV on site which made us feel safe walking the dog late at night or if you were to have children on site. While CCTV and a warden going around the site may not be for everyone this was a huge bonus for us.
This site is PERFECT for solo travellers also!!
Staff really took pride in the facilities and grounds and were so friendly!
This is a great place to stay to explore North Wales. Will most definitely be returning!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Wow, thank you so much for such a glowing and detailed review — we're absolutely thrilled!

It's wonderful to hear the views, pitches and facilities all exceeded expectations, and we're especially pleased the fully serviced pitches with EHU and water taps made things so convenient for you.

And a big shoutout for highlighting the site as perfect for solo travellers — that's a really important point and something we hope more people get to discover!

We can't wait to welcome you back to explore more of Wales. See you next time! 😄

Disliked Little overpriced but it was peak season

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for the kind words — we're really pleased to hear you enjoyed the site.

We appreciate your honest feedback on pricing. Peak season rates do reflect the increased demand and the costs of maintaining everything to the standard our guests expect, but we completely understand it's something guests consider. We always aim to offer the best possible value and will continue to keep that in mind.

We hope to welcome you back again — perhaps for a quieter and slightly more purse-friendly visit outside of peak season!

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The pitch we booked was still occupied when we arrived (hardstanding) when I mentioned that id actually meant to click grass pitch, they immediately found us a grass pitch and gave us levellers incase we needed them.

The people in the seasonal caravans on the plot by the toilets (that we were told by a seasonal caravan owner is known as 'gods waiting room') were all lovely and welcoming (and funny!)

Toilet and showers were always clean.

My 13year old loved the games, hes learned how to play pool, and hasn't stopped talking about it!

**Sneaky tip Just Eat deliver a couple of places to the campsite, 'bella house' pizza is nice 😂**

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: What a review — thank you so much, this really made us laugh!

We're glad we could quickly sort out the pitch mix-up on arrival. It's always our priority to make sure every guest feels settled from the moment they arrive.

As for 'God's Waiting Room' — we can neither confirm nor deny that nickname!!, but we're absolutely delighted the seasonal crew made you feel so welcome! They really are a brilliant bunch.

It's great to hear your son discovered a hidden talent for pool.

We hope to see you all back again soon — the pool table will be waiting!

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
