  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

Liked Location, friendly welcome,loos

Disliked Showers a bit dirty

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us this valuable review!

We are absolutely delighted to hear that you enjoyed our location and found the welcome so friendly—we always aim to make every guest feel immediately at home, and it's wonderful that our team achieved this for you! It's also great to know that the toilets ("loos") met your satisfaction.

However, we sincerely apologize that you found the showers a bit dirty. Please know that maintaining impeccable hygiene is a top priority, and it's clear we fell short of our own high standards during your visit in that specific area. We are immediately reviewing our cleaning schedule and protocols for the shower block to ensure we are conducting more frequent and thorough checks, particularly during peak usage times. We appreciate you bringing this specific detail to our attention so we can improve the experience for all future guests.

Thank you again for your honest feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon so you can see the improvements we've made to our shower facilities!

Liked Location there was nothing else about this site to like .

Disliked The site was scruffy and unkempt .
The toilets weren't clean ,sinks dirty ,bins full. Showers very un savory.
Chemical toilet wasn't working to start with. The drain cover was off without anything to warn users of the hole in the ground .
Broken glass on hard standing pitches .
No plug in utensil sinks .
Very expensive expected better.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked Good location

Disliked Dirty facilities, unkempt, falling down structures, feels like you're in a junk yard, chemical waste overflowing with poo on top, which we were pitched right next to. Price was extortionate considering! Nearly £100 for 2 nights!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you found the location to be good.

However, we are deeply concerned and incredibly sorry to read about your experience. The conditions you have described regarding our facilities, the state of the site, and the chemical waste are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the standards we strive to maintain. We are horrified to hear that you were pitched next to an overflowing waste disposal point and that you encountered such unsanitary conditions. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this unacceptable and distressing experience.

We are taking your comments with the utmost seriousness. Our management team is immediately investigating these issues to understand how this could have happened. We are taking immediate action to address the maintenance and cleanliness of the entire site, and in particular, the waste disposal areas. We are truly sorry that we failed to provide you with a clean, safe, and pleasant environment, and we understand your frustration with the price. This is not the experience we want for any of our guests.

Was ok for 1 night. Good if you want to sit and read or chill.

The Stables cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked Great location, friendly staff.

Disliked The site had lots of piles of building materials lying around. Brocken glass was of particular concern. We stayed in the stables and it should be pointed out that the cooking facilities are limited to a microwave.

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road. From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
