  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

This tranquil woodland site boasts friendly staff and spotless modern facilities, a major plus for many. Families enjoyed the playground, and it's great for dog walks. Some pitches are sloped, and access to amenities can be a trek, but spaciousness and cleanliness ensure a relaxing stay.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Staff very nice to deal with and speak to, arrived slightly late but was all okay as we maintained contact with them for times. Great layout of the site, good location so quiet, also a fairly good view from the top of the site too. Facilities all kept very clean and tidy, site very easy to access too.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Location of site was good. toilet and shower block were nice and Modern and clean.
Availability of fully serviced pitches

Disliked The fully serviced pitches are tight to back into especially of, like we experienced, there are people camping directly opposite and their cars are at the front of the pitch. Also due to the weather with it being so wet everywhere was muddy. Ended up having to get other campers to help us push the caravan into place and then unstick the car from the mud.
The WiFi was not operational during our visit.
Not the campsites fault but for the first time we encountered rude campers which put a dampener on the trip for me.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked I liked the pieceful and calm feeling of the site, which was very clean and tidy.

Disliked I did not like that there was not any air freshers in the mens toilet/shower block or any urinal blocks as each time on entering there was a slight foul smell in the air, even with the windows slightly opened.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful site and very well kept. The lady was extremely helpful as was the gentleman who came round to check on everyone. There are a small number of things for sale in the office if you need them, although out of the site there are so village stores too.
Toilets and showered were kept as clean as they could possibly be given the horrendous rain which did bring muddy feet into the facilities - the staff did amazing trying to battle it. I was also able to change from a grass pitch to a hard standing one as my car just could get into the grass with it being so wet and muddy - wheelslins all the way 😂. Was definitely not an issue and was moved straight away.

Disliked Very hard to fault anything as the team work so hard and from some of the replies to other reviews I see there are some plans re the infrastructure. The only three things that come to mind is the disused toilet block needs looking at as the smell is quite bad when the breeze is in the wrong direction. The ceiling above the showers and toilets could do with being painted in a Matt type of paint. At the moment it is high gloss which shows the reflection of the person either sat on the loo or in the shower. My daughter must be bored when suing the toilet being able to find this out lol. The other suggestion would be to have some sort of canopy over the washing up area.
But people, this really is a fabulous site and worth every penny. Will certainly be returning.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
