  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

This tranquil woodland site boasts friendly staff and spotless modern facilities, a major plus for many. Families enjoyed the playground, and it's great for dog walks. Some pitches are sloped, and access to amenities can be a trek, but spaciousness and cleanliness ensure a relaxing stay.

Woodland Premium lodge (hot tub, pet friendly)

Liked We arrived and there was Extra decorations around the site for Christmas period including lights and tree in the cabin which a lovely suprise ! The design of the cabin was excellent , modern and stylish and great storage , every space has been used effectively. Blankets and beds were comfy and everything was cleaned to a high standard . Hot tub had been warmed for arrival and loved that it had a hut and veranda so you could still use it if the weather turned , found this a game changer as many places we've stayed the hot tub hasn't had any coverage , this also helped make it feel very cosy and private. The grounds are stunning Lots of wildlife walks and forest to explore. The site has a little shop selling pizza , ice cream , sweets and basic essentials including BBQ lighters items etc.

Disliked Everything was provided in regards to little milks ,tea, sugar Washing liquid etc but only thing I missed was some shower gel in the shower . Most places usually have this also and was the only tiny tiny thing I could mention in regards to improvement.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked Loved that the cabin kept nice and toasty, I loved the Christmas decorations added a nice little touch. Hot tub is secluded and makes it more private.

Disliked Suggestion possibly some bath mats and where the hot tub area was it could have been kept a bit more clean, understandable it may be harder maintain with it being outside.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your time with us, we did work hard to create a Christmas theme through the park and will definitely do something again next year the feedback has been positive. We do hope that we can give a warm welcome back in the future.

Thank you for the comments regarding mats we will look into this and sorry about the outside we do tidy frequently but the weather is not always kind often the outside areas do revert back to being untidy, we keep the grounds surrounding the lodges as natural woodland, we will continue to think of ways to resolve this.

Many thanks the Riddings wood team.

Liked Showers and toilets clean. Pitches well spaced out although we did get stuck in mud - site manager kindly loaned hubby a shovel to dig us out. Nice location for cycling down to canal and reservoir -I guess lovely in the spring/summer.
Sold Calor gas in shop - good price. Indian takeaway van came NYE excellent food 10 mins walk to 2 local pubs in Riddings. A nice couple of days

Disliked Some Sloping pitches - need wedges and mats to get off if muddy

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us on park and took advantage of the areas around the park. We hope that we can give you a warm welcome back in the future.

The grounds have been seasonally wet with the rain we had early December which was relentless please be reassured that the grass areas recover and dry very quickly.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We decided on Derbyshire for our seasonal break with friends in our campervan. This park is between two villages, and is very quiet. The site itself is near to the main road, but we did not hear traffic, and next to a wood. Very peaceful, lovely views and not overlooked by others on the park at this time of the year. The facilities were great too - with hot showers, clean toilets and washing up facilities, and conveniently located waste disposal on the site. The shop is great too! And while there are bus stops outside the site, we found Uber an ideal way to get to nearby Ripley.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely views from the site over the valley, friendly team on arrival, toilets and showers clean and warm during winter. Pubs with walking distances, great walks on the doorstep. Fully serviced pitch was good and flat.

Disliked I can imagine the road way way would be a bit muddy when it’s wet, the ramp up to the easy access men’s toilets and showers can be treacherous when it’s wet and icey.

Liked Liz and Gary were great hosts, we felt very welcome, they arranged a bit of a sing song with mulled wine and snack on Christmas eve which was a lovely thing to do. Well kept site with great walks! We will be back :)

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
